2005 Seafarer 228 Bilge wiring question

The bilge outlet is on the starboard side up high near the transom bellow the stripes on the Seafarers ( all the ones I've seen) . The alternative to putting another hole on the side of your hull is to use a bigger outlet a Y and feed the two hoses to that but make sure you have one way valves...

2005 Seafarer 228 Bilge wiring question

I doubt very much you have a leak if you only have a bit of water in the bilge , of course you can check the hose connections and in particular the livewell outlet. Easy to check at home, put a garden hose in the tank and then pull the the tube off to let the water go . Use a torch of the...

Ski hook on 275 freedom factory hardtop

I wouldn't do it if I was you. The hardtop is very strong and so are the tubes that support it but you are putting a lot of leverage on the bottom where the tubes are bolted on . You can work out the load on the bottom if you know the load you towing and the height of the tubes .

2005 Seafarer 228 Bilge wiring question

Your boat should have 2 pumps both automatic, one in the rear bilge and the other at the front, if you pull off the plate that is on the cabin floor you will see the other pump . You should have two overide switches on the panel as well . If you want to add a third pump at the rear you have to...

    Looking for a young 228

Over the years I owned several boats ( actually lots) ranging from a 17' ski boat when I was a kid to a 36' flybridge . These days I only use it for fishing, I can't think of a boat that suits me better, If I thought another boat would suit better I would buy it. The only other boat I think...

    Looking for a young 228

Well said, what suits you or me doesn't necessary suit everyone else . I use to race them in my younger days so I had several models from 1993 to 2003, all worked of course, loved them too, them and Nissan GTR's . Much older now and hopefully wiser.

    Looking for a young 228

A bit pricey Lee, especially for a boat in the water all it's life and without trailer . I wouldn't touch that boat for that kind of money . For that money I would want one that includes a trailer and no bottom paint. I just noticed fuel used and miles logged 581 G used in 733.9 miles...

Tired of squeezing the old balls...

You don't need to pump them at all, just like you don't need to use the priming bulbs. The only time they are useful on injected four strokes is when you change fuel filters.

    Trim Tabs ON-OFF

On your 2014 Seafarer they should be factory fitted Bennet with auto retraction and LED indicators. You can only activate them with ignition on and they will retract when you turn the ignition off even if you didn't activate them you will hear the pump going for a while.

    seacocks

You are welcome. My boat is always on a trailer when not used. When I get home as part of washing the boat, engine and trailer, I will flash the engine on muffs for 10 minutes and flash the through hulls from underneath using a muff that fits over the pick ups . I run the pumps to get rid of...

    Touch up paint

What Dennis said is true. Once you repair the damage and prime it then you spay medium coats ( 2- 3) to cover the primed area then you blend out further ( spay a very light coat as you move further the coat should much less). When it's done you spray clear on the whole area, preferably all the...

Considering 22 Seafarer with Offshore bracket - feedback on brackets?

You are about to buy and you don't know the HP of the motor? Have you seen the boat? The bracket you are talking about it will be the same as in smokys boat without the swim platform as far as I know . I have a 2013 model, they are different, longer , wider and all aluminum including the...

    Repower of 282 Sailfish

These are new V8 engines NA 4.6lts , Merc have the same engine in V6 same cylinders as the V8 so about 3.4 lts . They are the lightest 4 strokes around . Nothing to do with the I6 supercharged 2.6 Verados. If I was to repower my 228 I would go for a Merc V8 300 hp. LouisR Looks like you are in...

    Prospective buyers

Depending on hull condition $10-12K , nothing for the engine , very little or even nothing for the trailer. She is definitely older that 1998, very easy to check from the HIN.

    Livewell dial vs. switch

What's up with my gelcoat damaging so easily? Can I use the boat?

That looks like a previous repair to me. Note the white part, looks a lot thicker than gelcoat should be. A closer look around the area, maybe by a pro should be able to tell. Dennis, I have seen what you are referring to as well but I don't think this is the case in this boat but hard to tell...
