GW Marlin swim step bolts are loose, anyone have any idea how to access them

My Seafarer is the same screws going into transom, if they are loose could be wet transom. Try screwing them and see what happens.

    New member - big question

11' 7" you should be fine without a radar, you should be good even with rocket launcher, aerials, light etc.. Most trailers would be ok as long as they have torsion axles and bent cross-members. Mine has 15" wheels but she sits very low on the trailer, boat is a couple inches above the guards...

    New member - big question

I have electronic measurement for my 228 with hardtop when she was shipped from Jacksonville to Sydney, they are very accurate because you pay on CBM. It was 3.41 mtrs ( about 11' 2 1/4 "). That would vary even on my boat on the same trailer if you lower the jack or lift the jack. My boat was...

    Any New Zealand owners here?

Open invitation? Sure is, you are welcome here anytime, I can even take you fishing in the Grady, you can see how she handles the mostly rough Pacific. We welcome all Americans here, plenty make the long trip down under, at least it is a none stop flight from LA, San Fran and even Dallas. New...

    Any New Zealand owners here?

Well said Lee, only one thing I don't agree with . Australia is the best place to live on and USA second best . Of course I'm biased but that's what I believe and I have traveled a lot as well . Nothing wrong with NZ or Canada, good salmon fishing there but bloody cold.

    Bought a 2000 Seafarer 228

Nice looking Seafarer you got there . She is the same as my old boat besides the hardtop, mine had a vista top, the main reason I replaced her with another 228 with hardtop. Your tank is factory standard 92 gl, they came with optional auxiliary tank around the 50 gal. In your boat the 10 gal...

    Seafarer Livewell removal

Insulation is factory standard in case you want to use it for drinks. Both my Seafarers had it but it is easy to pull out as others stated. I normally undo the inlet hose before I undo the screws on the top then I pull the tank up and undo the outlet . I find it easier to use a 1/4" ratchet...

    Fuel caps leaking

I think you will find both filler and vent hose to be to the front of the tank. I notice you have 2 tanks , I don't know if the front ( small) tank is the same . Lift the floor plates off to check . In this case you have to lift the front as high as possible. Like you said it is very hot now...

    Any New Zealand owners here?

Not in NZ but I have fished there several times . Plenty of huge kingfish there ( some over 80 lb but 40-50 lb is normal daily catch). To give an idea of size fish under 30" are not legal ( measurement from the fork to head not end of tail like we measure here ). There are blue fin and yellow...

2020 228 on the Monterey Bay

Lucky, You trim up when reversing because if you are trimmed in the prop wash hits the bottom of the transom and the boat will move much slower and that's the last thing you want when you are about to hit the dock. Going forward it doesn't matter works trimmed in or out as long as the prop is in...

    Scupper issues

Old boat, note the scupper location (bronze) and for interested parties the bracket is flat underneath and the swim platform F/G New boat, still current I believe, note the scupper is much higher S/S , the bracket is longer and pointy underneath to match the keel, the swim platform all...

Yes that is the correct term but I think he gets what I mean.

New to me 228 seafarer, outboard height questions.

As KY said you maybe able to lift it one hole, that will depend on the load you normally have on the boat ( fuel, gear , people) and where you use the boat too. You can try it and see, the higher the motor is the better fuel economy and speed you will get. As long as you don't cavitate when you...

    Fuel sender replacement issue

My understanding is you only have one hole without any thread for the screw to bite onto. If I was you I would use a small piece of 3/8" aluminum tap the correct thread then use some kind of epoxy/glue whatever that is fuel resistant and fix it on the inside of the tank. No drilling at all, the...

Compression Test With Engine Tilted Up?

No problem at all on two strokes. Warm engine, WOT and good battery will give you more accurate readings. Seasick gave you an idea just in case you drop anything.

New to me 228 seafarer, outboard height questions.

Your motor is too low, you need to go up one hole and make sure your bracket doesn't have water in it. That should fix your stiff steering as well.
