Help educate mechanically challenged kicker buyer

Make sure you have a small pitch prop, like 5"-6" so if you ever need to use it as a means to get back you don't kill it.

2 questions about reenforcing the rod holders

I use 1/4" S/S plate under my downrigger, the factory rod holders and the additional 4 rod holders I installed. You will find the gunnel is cored and pretty thick too. I custom made the plates myself to suit . If you go down that road you will find the 2 factory fitted forward holders have one...

Two Simrad 7 inches in Grady 228. Possible?

John , The measurements you have from Bluebottle are correct . I have a Simrad 12 evo 3 that I bought from Bluebottle ( they are close to me ) when I got my new 228. I can't tell how well it will fit in the box though. I bracket mount mine on the top of the dash because I want to be able to see...

Best battery tender for the winter?

Lead acid battery life will definitely shorten by heat and will not be effected by cold as long as the battery is fully charged. I never remove my boat batteries as I use the boat all year just like you guys would in FLA. Batteries in my boats last a lot longer than they do in my cars due to...

    Grady Bracket stripped screw

Seasick, I think you got it wrong. He said the hole is stripped, I take it he means the thread on the aluminum is stripped, if so then Dennis has it right, re-tap to the next size up and use a bigger bolt.

Dealership "restrictions" for buy a GW?

I bought both my previous and current 228 used. One from GA and the current one from FLA. I'm in Sydney AU. I was considering buying a new one on the second time from my local dealer as I couldn't buy a new boat from USA. The main reason I didn't was because they didn't have any in stock so I...

    Trim tab switch

I don't know about the hydraulic Bennetts . Years ago i had a bot with Lenco electrics and I fitted the LED controls . All i did was unplug the none LED and plugged the new LED controls . The plugs were the same . On another note I prefer electric tabs as they are much quicker to respond, the...

What can a gulf stream take

I don't like heavy seas it makes fishing uncomfortable. I use to do lots of comps and you don't have choice on the weather . It is what it is when the comp is on. Back then I had my old 228, no hardtop so she was much lighter and more stable without the weight up top. A bit older now , heavier...

    Re Power

Zukes are much heavier and they have offset driveshaft . I know they are cheaper but I wouldn't consider them mainly due to weight. I would go for a V8 4.6 LT Merc 250 hp ( that would be the max for your boat I would think) , second choice Yamaha 4.2 lt V6 250 hp . You can get both with DTS ...

New to Grady Whites: my 232 Gulfstream

Ditto, Many years ago I came back from about 10 kn miles offshore with a spun prop, I could rev it about 1500 before she was spinning. (200 hp Merc 2 stroke ). I had a kicker at the time but didn't bother with it. Another time I had to take the prop off because I got shark wire on the prop ...

New to Grady Whites: my 232 Gulfstream

If you can plane on one engine it means your prop pitch is much smaller than it should be . Magicalbill, If I had tweens and one crapped itself, I''ll be more than happy to motor back to port with one. You probably won't be able to go over 10-12 knots at WOT and that will be killing your engine...

New to Grady Whites: my 232 Gulfstream

If she is propped right she shouldn't however I'm sure you can get her to plane with 150 if you used a smaller pitch prop. Even if you get her on the plane with two engines she won't stay on plane if you turn one off and tilt it up.
