Grady 208 top speed with new mercury 4 stroke 225 hp

Mike , looks like you have a Suzuki 200, they have 2.5 gears , he has a Mercury 225 ( I assume V6 4 stroke) , they have 1.85 gears. You have to use a much bigger pitch if you have a 20" pitch he probably needs a 17". His engine maybe mounted too low, his speedo maybe wrong, bottom growth ...

    Roller or Bunk Trailer?

It is not rocket science to build a I beam aluminum trailer as it is all bolt on. If you are in Fla there are plenty small trailer manufacturers there, if you are not in a hurry have one built. If you go to a small place specify what you want as in what size I beams to use, how many...

    Simrad question?

John , Simrad and Lowrance are the same as far as I know . If you have a current model you should be able to change how fish looks on your screen. I don't have any pictures to put up , I have 12" Evo 3.

    what would you do?

I would avoid painting and not because of resale value. A clean bottom boat is much better than a painted one. Having said that if you leave her in the water any longer than a couple weeks at a time bottom paint is your only option . If it is easier for the Kyle just do it unless you take her...

228 Grady owners experience with In Hull transducers

I have the TM 275, they are both 1kw. I don't need a side scan, I fish offshore mostly for Marlin and other pelagic fish, sometimes I drop deep at 1200-1500' as well. I can pick up fish at the bottom but I only drive slow when on the deep reefs. I can pick up bait balls at speed on deep water...

    Roller or Bunk Trailer?

What Dennis said. I also use the Surfix trailer slides , they are almost as good as rollers . From my years of trailering and having both I'll take the bunks every time . They are much better on the road because the boat doesn't sway from left to right and you have less maintenance. I prefer...

228 Grady owners experience with In Hull transducers

I have the same, no problems holding bottom at any speed up to 600 foot , any deeper she will still hold bottom at 20 knots up to 2000 foot.

I never had a problem with my 800 Rule in my last 228 G , I cruise at 30+ knots.

    Re-locating batteries on a '92 228G

On the older boats ( 2 stroke) they have one battery on the port side, the oil tank and fuel filter away from the battery. The second battery is on the starboard side. I don't think there is any other reason than space. On later models ( 4 strokes) , you don't have oil tank, they can easily fit...

Winter storage in NE- full or near empty gas tank??

For me it is very easy, I never use ethanol fuel, never buy fuel on the water, never winterize, The tank will sometimes be full, other times half full or even 1/4 full. I just use the boat regularly, never had an issue.

    Re-locating batteries on a '92 228G

I agree with Dennis. not much difference in weight, I would locate both batteries on the port side , like they have on later models.

I sometimes wonder why GW have two pick ups, 2 holes on the hull for what? My old boat only had one as she didn't have washdown. I used the same pump as in the link with a second outlet, worked perfect. Like seasick said the pump will not pump air or oxygen in the tank, just pumps water, you can...

    Sorry I haven't been posting

I see you are getting ready for the NZ brutes . I fished not that far away from there a few times at Alderman Islands . One trip I managed to break 2 rods . When you get tired of landing kings, a bit closer to the islands you get big snapper for dinner, a little further away in deeper water...

    Wildfire Destruction

Not hard to remove at all. I had my boat shrink-wrapped in Jacksonville and shipped to Australia . Not just for protection, it keeps thieves and sticky beaks away too. I would still remove the front clears.

    Wildfire Destruction

Sorry about your loss, at least you are all ok , that's what matters most, everything else can be replaced. I would cover the front of the boat and the front glass with some thing like stick on carpet or something similar and remove all the clears. Secure the aerials with some bubble wrap so...

How to install kicker on 20' 208 Adventure

Have a look at these Panther brackets , more expensive but much heavier duty. I would mount it on the starboard side with a 5/16" aluminum plate on the inside to spread the load. If anything is in the way , remove and re-install on the ally plate...

Repowering 1990 sailfish with yamaha 200 four strokes

Bigger diameter will give you more lift and better hole shot all else being equal. You have 2 props so I don't think you need more blade in the water. Bigger blades are better for heavier and slower craft, smaller diameter is better for faster craft. A 25' sailfish with 400 Hp should be a fairly...
