Repowering 1990 sailfish with yamaha 200 four strokes

Assuming you are looking at the 4 cyl ( you can get V6 200 hp as well) they have 1.86 gears same as HPDI but they make power at higher rpm . WOT at 5100 the HPI's are about right but the F200 you need to be 5500 if you want to be at the mid range . I would think 17" pitch, maybe even 16 .

Is the 228's 16" draft loaded?

They do some beach launching in NZ but they have proper boat ramps like we and you do. Some small towns that I have been they launch on the beach, of course not a surf beach . Don't worry you will be able to launch on a concrete boat ramp most of the time. A 4WD is good, ah and forget about...

Good to hear you got her home safely . If you are not familiar with the command link check this out, easier than me trying to guide you through. It is an Australian site, I hope you can understand the Aussie accent.

Bow Wake Walking on the F236

What others said. I will add depending on the size of the wash you are negotiating as to the speed. Decide what speed you are going to go, you may slow down before you hit the wash but always accelerate as you are about to hit the wash at or close to 90 degrees . Never trim down, motor or tabs...

    1999 Bimini 306 - replacing fuel tanks.

If I was you I would repair the tank with this stuff , use all the fuel and then replace the tank. I wouldn't rely on a permanent fix, some people do .

    Trim Tabs 101:

Agreed when you have the engine hanging on the transom, totally different when you have a 3 foot bracket, like the late model 228's have . As a rough guide you go up one inch every foot . In any case when on the plane you should get very little water over the anti ventilation plate .

What do you tow your boat with?

I use 2" with 1" shank rated 8000 lb, towing my seafarer. You can use either as long the ball you use is rated over 7000 lb you should be fine. If budget permits use Kodiak Stainless steel brakes at the very least use S/S calipers, much cheaper in the long run. Sorry I'm assuming you are boating...

When you trim the motor in you put the bow down so more boat in the water = more resistance but at the same time you have more leg in the water as well so you have extra resistance there too. If you use the trim pads to force the bow down, you only have the boat resistance the leg is higher so...

    More gas

That will also depend on the condition of the 100 gal tank you have now.

Our engine gets the best fuel consumption at about 3500-3600. I never drive at that RPM , weather permitting well I'm over 4000 and if I can't be over 4000 constantly I will be on and off and that kills fuel economy more than anything else and if that is not enough going uphills kills it too. I...

My engine is fitted as per factory, I could easily go up one hole, the reason I don't is because when she goes over the crest of a wave she will probably surface. I would definitely lift it if I was boating on lesser seas. I had a 250 optimax on my previous 228, installed it in 2011, never had...

    Squeaky Steering wheel

If the wheel has some free play , not when you turn it left to right , when you pull in and out and twist it up and down then more than likely the shaft bush is warn. Some silicone spray can fix it temporally.

Doc, The fact that you run a jack plate makes heaps of difference in calm water on both speed and fuel burn. In my case it would't be as useful because going up and down waves the prop will come out of the water and when that happens it is quite easy to snap a prop shaft when the prop bites...

There are a lot of variables to speed and fuel use. What pitch prop are you using? I think your engine has 2:1 gearbox, going by the rpm and speed looks like 17. The 4.2 Yamaha has 1.75:1 . My boat will do about 33 mph at 4000 rpm with 17" pitch prop. The 4.2 yam has a lot more down low torque...
