    Steering is Stiff

At this point, we're still in the middle of all-hands-on-deck doing winterizations. Once that calms down, I'll get the boat inside the shop. I will re-check that the engine turns easily... and also see how the steering feels with the engine disconnected. It's been helpful to hear that it...

    Steering is Stiff

Skunk, no problem! Thanks for the re-post! No, I cannot turn the wheel with one finger standing still. Well, "sort of", but it's very hard. Compared to my mother's 192 w/150HP - it's vastly different. No, I don't have an AP. Chris/Seasick, yes, I have greased it - and I do grease it till I...

    Steering is Stiff

Side question... Gentleman... this question is NOT meant as sarcastic or unappreciative... far from it. It's more about how "I" wrote my questions and why it seems there are follow up questions when I had already wrote the answer. Again, this is more about "what is it about how I wrote my...

    Steering is Stiff

Hi Chris - everything on the engine side of things is good. I never really thought that anything in the helm or cables could "wear out"? But what you're saying makes me feel good about NOT needing to step up to power assist should I replace the system. It's an old Hynautic setup :) This is...

    Steering is Stiff

No power assist. Thank you. EDIT: Oh, yes, it has gotten progressively harder over the last 5 or so years.

    Steering is Stiff

Oh, OK, so you don't have standard hydraulic - OK, that makes sense why it's so easy for you.

    Steering is Stiff

Do you know if you do/do not have a power assist?

    Steering is Stiff

I have a difference between port/stbd (due to prop walk as you said) and would naturally expect that... but both ways are extremely hard. How is your 215 with normal hydraulic steering?

    Steering is Stiff

And you definitely do NOT have the power assist motor? That sounds too easy without power assist! :)

    Steering is Stiff

My experience with hydraulic steering, other than this 250HP 2-Stroke on my 24' Offshore, is with smaller engines. So I don't have a good "base" as to whether or not the "stiffness" of my steering is normal. At higher speeds (up on plane, etc), I can NOT steer it without using two hands. I...

265 Express - removing old windshield supports

If you do bugger the screw head, use a Dremel to cut away the crappy fitting and then you can get a vice grip on the screw head. Or... remount your new support in a slightly different location and leave the old one there as a conversation piece. Or, ahead and snap the old screws off and then...

265 Express - removing old windshield supports

The SS screws and aluminum have experienced galvanic corrosion. Shock it back and forth a 1/8 turn (lot's of pressure to avoid stripping the head)... penetrating fluid a couple times over a few days.... heat the head and use a candle to pull the wax in... there's no magic here - just patience!

    Panda out solar in?

Yes, solar is a nice, quiet, no-cost way to charge batteries... well, "no cost" AFTER the initial cost! ;) But as noted, given the limited real estate to mount them, they are really only a slow battery charger. That BW wasn't using the solar panels for any high draw accessories. But of...

Looking for ideas to get boat & trailer in new garage

Can we assume this is just for the Winter? Nothing wrong with lowering the air pressure if it gives you enough room. You will likely have more head room once the boat is inside and you can pump them back up. Find out EXACTLY how much clearance you need. Inexpensive/easy options... Get a...

    Replacing gas shocks. Help requested...

Good deal! Osculati is a good company - they've been around for a long time. I should have remembered them and mentioned that brand to you - I think they are in (or originally anyways) Milan.

    I need a tip…265x enclosure

Yup, it won't shrink anywhere near that. I suspect Skunk's last response is the answer. Either... get one of the back pieces re-made or get an extension made.

    Fuel Tank Size

I appreciate the story! Yeah, I bet that iron has "a bit" more amperage than a typical iron used for electronic boards!

    Fuel Tank Size

Hmmm... interesting! I like it! Does the solder guntip stay hot long enough to be worthwile? Meaning, once the tip is in contact with the screw head, it's going to bleed heat pretty quick - I guess it depends a lot on the amperage of the heating element?
