    271 CANYON TO KEYS

RAYK: I just returned from my Keys Run. I put up a separate thread with the fuel burn, conditions and run time. I noticed you haven't seen it yet. I entitled it simply "RAYK."

    Wahoo!

Hey: Thanks for the update! Glad to hear your still planning to complete the voyage. The Appalachian Trail Crossing is new to me. By the time you both complete your Goals, you'll have acquired a decent resume' from tackling different aspects of the Great Outdoors. I know zilch/zero about...

    Superstitions

I just brought my Marlin back from the Keys and while I was there I must've ate 4 bananas over 5 day period at the dock. I had no idea there were maritime superstitions associated with bananas. I don't think about that stuff. My thoughts were focused around getting home between cold fronts....

    RYAK.

As mentioned, here are the stats for my latest run which I did yesterday. Realize depending on wx, I do it in a weird, quirky way. On this run, I stayed close in and cut back to land after rounding Cape Romano. That will make my numbers likely different from yours. Please refer to my responses...

RAYK: I'll be out of touch for a while, but when I return, I'll post all the info I can for you.

    271 CANYON TO KEYS

Good advice from Dhirsh: I mentioned both Faro Blanco and Hawks Cay in one of my earlier replies. Faro Blanco is a straight-in approach and Hawks has a marked channel and a perimeter canal you transit to get to the marina. (Check out the dolphins in their caged pen to your port just before you...

    Yamaha 350 year 2015

Dhirsh: My thoughts exactly. There is no substitute I know of to match the 350's for shoving heavy hulls thru the water unless you spring for the XTO 425's, and you could probably buy a house for what you'd pay for them. Besides, they likely wouldn't work on older transoms anyway. I'll wager...

    Wahoo!

You know what I'm going to ask.... After seeing you back on here on the Gulfstream/258 Topic, I am curious when the next leg, (or maybe the last leg) of your Loop trip is set for. If memory serves, you ended up near the Anclote Keys with your Sailfish. I get it if your kicking it down the...

    Gulfstream vs 258 for fishing?

It is worthy of note that Wahoo completed a significant amount of the Great Loop aboard his 258 and it served him well. I know because I was an avid follower of his "Journey" (pun intended.) BB: Why did they discontinue it? Speculation here, but possibly to make room for the incredible amount...

    Merry Christmas and all that!

Got here late: best wishes to all here for a decent 2021. Remember, things won't magically improve as soon as the Ball Drops At Midnight. It'll take awhile, but long term signs point to a decent spring and a better summer, if you can believe those who claim to know.

I believe it. Great idea on mentioning the low bridges that span the cuts between the Bay side and Hawk Channel side. Many are not marked and knowing your bridge clearance ahead of time is a big deal, especially if a strong tidal current is pushing you toward said structure.

Trap: I wish I could...my computer technical expertise is in short supply. I tell myself I need to devote time to get a tighter grip on "copying" "pasting" and the assorted other aspects of Modern Day Living. It never seems to get done. Please refer to Planned Outage's map that you see on...

    Gulfstream vs 258 for fishing?

I always hesitate to answer any questions pertaining to fishing as I don't fish at all. I am chiming in here, only because I owned a Gulfstream and I rode several times on a good friends 258. The 258 rides a bit better in a head or quartering sea likely due to the narrower beam-to-length ratio...

    271 CANYON TO KEYS

RAYK: I have made that run in my previous boat, a 232 Gulfstream many times. It's roughly 130-140 miles from San Carlos Bay to Marathon, depending on your course. A short (by my standards) rundown of things to plan for & expect. WX: Summer months give you more consistent calm days. During...

    Yamaha 350 year 2015

Epp: My 350's will be within a millimeter of a Marlin with 300's as far as fuel burn. They work less. Stats: 3500-3900RPM 32-35MPH 1.3-1.4MPG 4000-4200RPM 36-38MPH 1.3MPG The above numbers are my normal-to-hi end cruise. Once I've burned off several hundred lbs. of fuel, I'll get 1.5 at...

    Yamaha 350 year 2015

I can't speak for a 2015 350. I CAN speak for my 2018 350. It has been the finest outboard I have ever owned. I would buy another tomorrow if I needed one. When you say "The Latest Model" is supposed to be very reliable, I assume you mean the 2020's? I think mine, as well as the newer ones are...

Bunk dimensions for Grady White Marlin 2006

Two extra things: I have a 2018 Marlin resting on a 16K lift. The boat is 12,500 lbs loaded with 350's so the extra safety margin seemed wise to me. I also have 20 ft bunks. I think the more hull that the bunks come in contact with and support, the better. My lift is perfect for the Marlin. I...

Transducer relocation (w/ pics)... 2007 Gulfstream - Twins

I had your exact boat for 10 years. And I mean Exact. Mine was a 2007 with '06 F200's. I can't sat exactly as I have no pics, but mine was located approx halfway between the stbd engine and the stbd tab. it was an externally mounted "puck" type coupled to an old Humminbird 3004 drilled into the...
