Salty dogs and why I love this forum

I have heard so much about how The Hull Truth (or THT, right?) throws out written smirks, innuendos and downright insults that I decided to go visit. I didn't sign on to post, just dialed it up and looked around... I found the insults and cat-calling to be there, but I also found some good info...

    30 Marlin with F225's

I have a Marlin with 350's, so I have no real world experience with 225's. 18MPH at 3600 makes me wonder if there isn't something else going on..Bottom growth? Wrong props? Tabs stuck down maybe? At 18MPH, the boat isn't even on plane unless he has the tabs fully deployed. Can't definitively...

New to me Marlin (part two) - past owner?

epp: Haven't heard back from my club contact yet. Just wanted you to know I hadn't forgot your request. If he gets back to me, I'll let you know. There's no one else that I know that can give me info on your boat.

New to me Marlin (part two) - past owner?

I will inquire within our club to see if the (maybe) previous owner can be located. I never really knew them well and didn't exchange phone numbers. I think I can find out the answer even without speaking to the former owner. I'll post back on this thread with my findings.

    Stripped down and waiting,,,,

So...will it go to your indoor storage facility at the end of January for the balance of the winter? How does that work? Do you have a specific spot in the bldg or do they shoehorn all the boats in and you'll get the space closest to the door once you get it there?

New to me Marlin (part two) - past owner?

epp; I don't think it's the same one, but one of our Gulf Coast club members had a Marlin of that vintage. I don't think they fished much, if any, so the waypoints you speak of make me think yours is a different boat. That said, very few had 350's and our members boat I'm speaking of did. I...

    Parthery; Question.

Hey: Can you reply with the site and/or info of the company that allows towing with their rental trucks? You mentioned it in a discussion awhile back. I want to send it to a friend who needs that service. I think it's Enterprise?? Thanks! Hope all is well in your World....

    Santee bound!

I'm pretty sure that's freshwater; I can tell by the foam dissipation in the wake. I thought Santee was on the coast? Pretty large body of water in any case...Glad your having a good trip!

Dream to retire with my boat and fish....

I can only help halfway. I don't fish, so I know nothing about that. Retirement? Now 'ya talkin'. I can assist with that on many levels. 1.) It will grow on you. I was never the kind that got bored and needed a part-time job to keep from going nuts. I love having little to no commitments. 2.)...

Side question: What kind of mileage do you get towing? That's the 6.7 isn't it?

    Boat Lift Advice

Agree with Ky Grady. it's not excessive when it's the only thing holding your boat. To Compare: I have a Marlin 300 weighing in around 12,500. My lift is 16K. Always overbuild, whether it's lifts or trailers. it isn't that much more for the protection & peace of mind. One more thing..If your...

    Your Closest Call?

Koakine88: Thanks for that very interesting story. I was in Hawaii once, rented a car and drove to the North Shore and was amazed by the huge swells breaking on the beach. (I recall it was so deep, they broke close in to shore.) That day was likely no different than most, but I remember it 40...

    Your Closest Call?

I think this has the potential to be interesting, informative and entertaining in equal parts. I (and others, I'll wager,) would be interested in hearing about your most harrowing encounter on the water aboard your Grady. Give Us The Tale Of The Day You'll Never Forget. One requirement..NO...

Learned some stuff in my 228

Hey Lucky: As others have said, neat write-up and glad you are bonding with your rig. Boat ownership is a Journey with Destinations in between. Along the way you discover things big & small, learn & adjust... We have already discussed the pro's & con's of engine trim vs. tabs. You've found...
