Any issues with isolating the bilge?

I can't remember where I read someone doing this but I thought it was a pretty good idea. Isolating the forward and rear bilge from the two fuel tank sumps. Eliminating any water from running up and down the bottom of my fuel tank, and from getting anywhere near my batteries. Is there any...

New to me 85' 24' Offshore (Project)

Doesn't have to do with my build but finally finished one of two custom steps me and my father have been building for a 52' Viking in the yard. Still have to fill the spaces in with black life-caulk let it cure for a couple days then sand.

Built a custom grab handle for a 52' Viking in our yard out of teak. It gets fastened to the ceiling and the handle ends up right at the door entering the salon. It also has a piece of 1 3/8" trim built into it and I made a seperate piece if trim for the other side of the salon. Thinking of...

That's funny that you mention that. I've done this to an 88 overnighter that I bought and sold and I also did it to my 88 seafarer that I'm currently selling. Also have done a few customers of mine and in the yard. Usually it's just the cockpit trim, doors, steps, hatches and sometimes...

    Should I recore my transom?

Exactly. Once the boat is fully painted, Im going to shrink wrap it but build a big enough frame so I can stand up and work comfortable etc. This way the weather will not stop me from rigging the boat next winter.

    Should I recore my transom?

This is true to an extent. You have to stop somewhere, I could seperate the top and bottom of the boat, rip out the floors and replace the stringers, and replace the transom. It comes to a point where what is your time worth? At that point I'd rather spend the extra coin on the same size boat...

New to me 85' 24' Offshore (Project)

Cutout a hole and made a hatch for the anchor locker. Really happy with how it came out just waiting on the mounting hardware to come in. Went with removable hinges so I didn't have to come up with a way to keep it open and went with an anti rattle latch. I made the hatch 3/8" bigger than the...

    Should I recore my transom?

Thank you, I'm really trying to not cut any corners with this boat and do everything the way I want and just deal with however long it takes. I have my 22 seafarer that hasn't sold yet so I may not be completely "boatless" this summer. I do regret not wrapping the boat after seeing 6+ inches...

Cutout and fit the anchor locker bulkhead. Not too happy how it fits, I should have checked the old one again before I used it as a template. There's a decent sized gap on the two sides where it tapers up. Hoping that the headliner I end up using will be thick enough to fill the gap...

    Should I recore my transom?

Dennis, I'm actually a full time employee at a marina on Long Island haha. Been in the business for almost 6 years now and there is still PLENTY I have to learn. I started working under my fathers wing and now mostly do all the service work, welding, equipment operating, elec. installs, and...

    Should I recore my transom?

1985 24' offshore with open transom. I'm currently in the middle of restoring it (check photo section) and I'm wondering if I should recore the transom while the boat is completely apart. I've already done the floor hatches and wasn't planning on going any further than that really...

Haha thanks guys, I will feel better once the boat is painted. I'm just hoping that the boat structurally will last me some time. I hate seeing frozen water in the bilge but if I wrapped it i wouldnt be able to work on it when the weather is decent. Made some covers for the compartments in the...

Can't help you with your decision, however from my experience I don't recommend going in on a boat with a partner/friend. Good luck

Marlin rear bilge access panel questions

You shouldnt have any issues installing it without screws. Just make sure you prep everything good. Lay some caulk down where the hatch lays then just press it into place. Use a plastic scraper or something of the like to remove any excess that comes out so your left with a nice bead. Have...

New to me 85' 24' Offshore (Project)

Built a bow pulpit after work tonight pretty happy with how it came out. Made it out of two pieces of 3/4" starboard. Just needs a pair of cleats, Lewmar windlass, and anchor roller.

New to me 85' 24' Offshore (Project)

Came up with a better idea for "handles" to open the hatches rather than just putting a hole in them. I used a biscuit cutting tool and removed some material right underneath where I routed the edges just enough to get your fingers in. Gonna start working on a bow pulpit, cuddy anchor...
