Re: 1981 Mako 17 Project - transom is done!!! Transom is done!!! Well, structurally it's done. I still need to make it pretty. Spent about an hour last Thursday afternoon sanding the runs down on the core and then precut all of my my glass for the inner skin. Plan was to spend Friday AM...

    20 Overnighter- repower question

My Dad had a '77 204 CC w/ a 115 Evinrude and from what I remember, he said it would top out around 33. Since your boat is already rigged for a Merc, there's no harm in sticking the 115 on there and seeing what it will do... Prop it so it reaches max RPM and I would estimate a cruise in the...

Question about water in fuel tank

Yep....that gas was 2 or 3 years old when I got the boat. I simply was trying to draw out as much water as I could before making a determination about whether or not to try and mix some fresh fuel in and burn it. I just wanted to show that it's very obvious what is and isn't gas when things...

    90's 190 Tournament buying advice

No. 2 w/out a doubt. If it's been maintained, that Yammy will have lots of life left.

    Floor Panel Seal

Plastic scraper. Great idea! That's probably better than the finger techique. :goodjob You could also use a snap-on cap from a milk jug.

    Floor Panel Seal

I've used 4000UV fast cure on the '93 and earlier boats than have faded. Turns out really nice. Line the gaps with blue painters tape first. Caulk, smooth it with a wet finger, pull the tape, smooth it w/ a wet finger again to flatten out the edges where the tape was. You have be kind of...

Question about water in fuel tank

The key is whether or not the water has settled to the bottom of the tank or not. If so, easy fix.. 1. Position the boat so one side of the tank is lower than the other (move it around on the trailer or add weight to one side if slipped). 2. Pop the sending unit. 3. Take a coat hanger and...

I've emptied about 45 gallons before just by pumping the bulb on the main line... Not fun, but it worked.

    Replacing 1983 Seafarer floor/gas tank

D@mn son...you made quick work of that! :goodjob Do yourself a favor and pull that foam while you've got the floor up. Any moisture that has gotten into it will have settled to the bottom. Once you have it all (or whatever you can get to) out, put a layer or two of glass over those...

95 Yam 150 SW2 lost top end RPM

You might also try asking on www.screamandfly.com. Those guys know absolutely everything about outboards. You might also try having a buddy drive while you manually manipulate the carb linkage to see if you get full RPM that way. Calm water only of course... :)

    1981 Mako 17 Project - 7/15/13 update

Re: 1981 Mako 17 Project - transom core is in!!! Richie, I have to give credit to Shine over at Bateau2 for the success of the outer skin. It was his recommendation to use the melamine to mold it. NEM, Icemaker? What will I need one of those for? This boat is going to be too pretty to...

    Replacing 1983 Seafarer floor/gas tank

I would cut the gunwales on both sides about 3" aft of the forward fish boxes and remove them entirely. Then do the same for the liner and remove it as well. That will require the least amount of glassing/fairing when it comes time to put it all back together, and will give you the most access...

Re: 1981 Mako 17 Project - can't catch a break Transom core is in and outer skin mold is off!!!! After a dry fit on Friday, Dad came down on Saturday and helped me set the core. After making a quick pass over the outer skin w/ a 24 grit disc on my grinder, vacuuming the surface and wiping...
