    228G or 232?

My old Sailfish wouldn't even sleep 2 adults and 2 kids comfortably...

    Replacing 1983 Seafarer floor/gas tank

I would go stainless...and also build in new ways to access the thru-hulls easily.

    Washdown Pump install 86 204c

When I did a partial rewire on my old 204F, I hacked up the mess of spliced and electrical taped ground wires in the back of the boat and installed a bus bar for all the grounds for stuff at the back of the boat (bilge pump, washdown, fuel fill, gas tank, stern light, etc.) on the inside of the...

    Tow Vehicle for Grady 258

Agreed. I used to lug my old '93 Sailfish around with a 3/4-ton Ram 4x4. Had the first gen. 5.7 HEMI and it did great.

1960-1961 Grady White 17 1/2' Wood Lapstrake Outboard

I would get in touch with the customer service dept at Grady White. They might be interested in it for display at the plant or something.

    86 204c inshore ocean

On a good day, 8 to 10 miles is nothing. After clearing the inlet in Wachapreague, VA I cruised another 20+ in my old 204 before wetting lines on multiple occasions. Watch your forecast carefully though because it doesn't always look like this out there... I got caught once after the wind...

    HOW TO: Replicating "Splatter" Non-Skid

All I did to get the texture was thin it less. 1 ml of acetone per ounce of gelcoat for the textured areas, 6 ml of acetone per ounce of gelcoat for the smooth areas. No change in my spraying technique. Oh, I've since learned that styrene is better for thinning poly/vinyl based resins/gelcoats.

How are the o-rings on your fuel full caps?

    HOW TO: Replicating "Splatter" Non-Skid

Robert, sorry about the delay in repsonding. I've gotten into the habit of just skipping over these top two stickys when I check-in... It was all store-bought Evercoat gelcoat. I simply got the texture by not thinning it as much. Sounds like your gelcoat needed to be thinned. In my...

hi, new member question about soft floors

Cut the entire floor out leaving a lip of 3" or 4" around the perimeter so you have something to glass the new floor. Sorry but that is the only way. Dig the foam out with a shovel and then you can make an assessment of where you want to go. But as stated, your chances of finding rotten...

hi, new member question about soft floors

Stringer core is NOT supposed to look like this... A transom core IS supposed to look like this... Basically, since they are both cored with wood, you want the core to look like solid, dry wood and not wet wood, rotten wood, dirt, etc. Go ahead and pull the tank panel. You'll have to get...

    electrical problem?

Look for the simple solutions first guys. Check/remove/clean/reinstall all of the wires connecting to your batteries, bus bars, gauges, etc. I had the charger in my old Sailfish quit charging my stbd. battery one time. Removed the leads, cleaned them off, reinstalled, good as new.

hi, new member question about soft floors

Unfortunately, pulling the panel over the gas tank won't give you access to check the condition of the floor on either side as the stringers run all the way to the bottom of the deck. If the deck is soft, it's either delaminated, rotten or both and that repair is much more involved than fixing...

85 Seafarer 227 -fuel tank life

Replacement inverval...some people say 10 years, some say 15, some say when it starts leaking. There is no real "right" answer. The only sure way to determine the condition of the tank is to pull it out and look for areas of pitting and/or pinholes. It's not a terribly hard job to yank that...

1984 20 Overnighter Scupper Relocation Question

Here you can kind of see where the thru hulls for the aft fish well drains in my old 204F were. It was probably about 14" from the transom... I think what I would do is keep the existing scupper in the cockpit (which should exit straight through the vertical section in front of the aft seats...

    Fogged up Windshield/Stratoglass

Did you try opening the side vent windows? Also, maybe try some RainX on the windshield and Stratoglass (as long as it won't hurt it). It could just be he way of telling you she liked it in MD better... :D

    Grady head sea ride

If you want the best head sea ride, I personally think you need to look at a different manufacturer. My only experience with a 330 is watching one fade off in the distance as we walked away from it in a 28 Carolina Classic one snotty day here on the Chesapeake...

    1981 Mako 17 Project - 7/15/13 update

Re: 1981 Mako 17 Project - transom is done!!! That is certainly an option. I think I would need at least 10+" of setback in order for the throttle and shift cable to not bind though. Was looking at the CMC jackplates about a week ago. We'll see. I should probably revamp my plan so it...

    1981 Mako 17 Project - 7/15/13 update

Re: 1981 Mako 17 Project - transom is done!!! I never got to see the boat floating in stock form. The transom had already been removed when I got it. I'm going to be building my own fiberglass bracket much like the Hermco one, but with no platforms. The console is being pushed forward 6" to...

    1981 Mako 17 Project - 7/15/13 update

Re: 1981 Mako 17 Project - transom is done!!! Thanks guys. :) I know she will float. I'm more worried about if she will sit right once there's a bracket and outboard hanging off that transom. No real progress on the Formula to report. I sold the bracket I bought, but should be getting...
