    Considering a 282 Sailfish vs a Marlin 300, ideas?

Fish, I think the beam on the 282 is 9' 6". The 232 Gulfstream is 9' 3". The Marlin indeed can be towed as ShannonC depicts. Just don't daydream while your pulling it....

    Newbie here advise needed

I used to be an errand boy for a pharmacy in 1980. I got fired when I overheated their VW Beetle. The fan belt broke, disabling the fan and I didn't realize they were air cooled in those days. At that point, I started performing full-time. I made more money playing Lynyrd Skynyrd and making...

    2020 Grady White Freedom 215

Awww..thanks Luckydude. Your kind words are much appreciated. This is indeed a great forum; we all pick up useful info and make new friends to boot. Thanks again for the nice stuff you said. Made my night.

    2020 Grady White Freedom 215

I've been chatting with Luckydude about this topic. I'll chime in here as well since it's a quiet afternoon. To answer these kind of questions accurately, the info needs to be more specific. "A choppy bay" means different things to different Captains. Is it a small, mid-size or large bay? The...

    Small Offshore Comparison’s

I think that's a realistic viewpoint. However, if you get caught and have to slog back thru bad stuff, the Seafarer will get you home safely unless your in a Cat 1 or something. As I mentioned, uncomfortable and safe are two different situations. One more thing; (my Columbo imitation) the 2-3...

Thinking about air ride seats for my 228

Hey, happy to chime in. I've been there with the tab adjustments. I heeled my Seafarer over as well in my early days by holding the toggle switch down for too long,. The tab fully deploys; then, presto, the boat is heeling hard over. It's easy to get impatient while pounding thru an...

    Small Offshore Comparison’s

I just commented on this subject in another thread. Wave heights are thrown around and often, (honestly I'm sure,) overestimated. A magnificent author wrote years ago: "As any judge knows, eyewitnesses may honestly disagree." Therefore, this is not meant to knock anyone's judgement, it is...

Thinking about air ride seats for my 228

You haven't described your conditions that you went out in. If the seas are wind-driven localized 2 footers, playing with props won't help if it's a quartering or head sea. (Didn't you have your tabs fully deployed?) In a following sea or anything abaft the beam, you'll get a much better ride...

    Your welcome. Happy to help.

    Getting ready for the Keys

If that's the case, the reef at Pennenkamp should be clear as air; Echoing the others for a safe & fun trip.

    Good bye old friend.

Sold fast. Feeling a little weird? Understandable. X2 what Lee says; Hope your future is fun filled.

    Anchor locker capacity

Not directly apples-to-apples but my Marlin is the same hull and it holds 300' of line (8-plait, i think) and 30 ft of chain, no prob. I would have to think your locker is similar if not the same.

Thinking about air ride seats for my 228

This opens up a topic that I have wanted to address from time-to-time; wave height. I will start a new thread. To Luckydude's question: I would never put air-ride seats in a boat. I would just slow down to compensate for conditions, and protect the boat. However, he wrote the check; if he wants...

    Newbie here advise needed

I am careful to expound on just what I am familiar with, so I'll cover what I can. A Sailfish 282 will do what you want. Since you mentioned inland lakes, you'll have to trailer it. Whatever vehicle you use to pull your Chap should jerk the 282. Ideally, a 3/4 or 1-ton diesel is best, but...

TnT? Trim & Tilt? Yikes..sorry. On vacation too...I'm no tech, but do you think this failure may be related to the hit you took off Conley Bottoms? You didn't have too many more days anyway, did you?

    Decision time

I was wondering what the verdict might be. As fun as boating is, it is not without commitment and you may be happier without one. Several of my friends are. Hope your move goes well.

The islands that I described to you earlier may be exposed at mid-low tide. If they are. you may be able to anchor in the flats to the East of them and get out of the tidal current somewhat, but it really flows fast thru there too. Remember, they are off the marked channel paralleling the South...

That's the Blackburn Point Swinger; I need an opening to get my Marlin under it... I'm betting you've noticed that you no longer have 100' of water to work with anymore. Trying to figure out where you are in the Pass; Looks like near the North shore off Lido? In any case, looks like your...

Sounds to me like you were in a bar band. That's exactly the way I am after 30+ years of dealing with inebriated patrons. It was love/hate. They supported my acts and musical endeavors, but as the years went by, I found it increasingly hard to deal with them. We finally went to straight 3-hour...

    KY Grady!

I would enjoy a cruise; thanks for the thought, but I am scared of the Covid problem and the accompanying worries about being near people. If we kick the invite into 2021, I'd be happy to meet up if the Pandemic goes away. Here's hoping you have a great time!
