    Father's Day at Pyramid Lake

Last 2 years have been tougher because of severe water changes from drought to record rain. My best is a 34" 14lb lean fish. Same year I lost 2 monsters because of my laziness retying the swivel after many fish. The big ones moved like cement logs....wish I could have gotta glimpse of them.

    Fuel fill hose replacement

I just replaced my original 228 fill and vent hoses and replaced tank. I'm surprised your fill line failed so quickly. Bummer. You want to get 8' of fill line, 9' of vent because of the vent loop at West Marine. Shields brand made in Italy. Likely you will cut off maybe foot or so on the fill...

Engine starts runs fine then dies out...

So that's pretty similar. Suggest next time to clock your idle minutes. Sometimes a few minutes feels like ten. When I flush the engines 8 minutes seems like alot longer if you catch my drift. And when you come down off of plane a gradual descent to idle over a few minutes might help. Just...

Engine starts runs fine then dies out...

Is it stalling out after you ran it hard (30+ minutes cruising), then shut down fast, then next time you start engine up happens in the first 5 minutes? Had this problem...I believe it was caused by vapor lock. Honda BF200 engine. As soon as I let the boat idle for 5-10 mins after running 30+...

1987 228 Seafarer Aluminum tank and Fuel lines replacement

Roger that, plus I did mine in high summer heat. That cuddy has zero air circulation. You definitely did a more substantial fix than I did. I got some aluminum braces from Home Depot, and 2 cartridges of West System Six10 from West Marine. 2 part epoxy that is thickened and self mixes as you...

Work day - update and need help

Agree with glacierblaze. Sometimes ear muffs might not give enough water pressure to really test it. I bought a plastic horse trough from Tractor Supply Co. and it will accommodate my Honda BF200 trimmed down. It's handy to have if you want to change fluids off water so you can warm up the...

1987 228 Seafarer Aluminum tank and Fuel lines replacement

Agreed, everybody's situation and needs are definitely a consideration. I'm a big fan of keeping the job as simple as possible to get "workmanlike quality" when complete. Like your boat's name~ Very appropriate

1987 228 Seafarer Aluminum tank and Fuel lines replacement

I remember trying to get a little hacksaw in the access hole to cut out the rusted out bracket too. Fun times!

1987 228 Seafarer Aluminum tank and Fuel lines replacement

Not sure of your question, there are 3 hoses. Yes I replaced all the hoses. The 2 up front on the tank are the fuel fill that goes up to the gas fill where you pump in fuel, and the other next to it is the vent line. The single hose in the rear of the tank is the fuel line that goes to the...

1987 228 Seafarer Aluminum tank and Fuel lines replacement

Thanks, I am glad I did it. Really pulling out the main fuel fill was a total PIA because of how it snaked around in my boat. Right up there with replacing the bow eye cleat. LOL if u did that too!

    GE silicone or this?

Used same GE almond silicone on both deck hatches 3 years ago when I redid the wood and fiberglass underneath. Had to pull them recently to replace my aluminum fuel tank and hoses. The silicon seemed really solid in the gap. Actually was a real PIA trying to get them out. I think it will be fine...

1987 228 Seafarer Aluminum tank and Fuel lines replacement

I get that, my boat's old tank didn't have one. I'm gonna buy an extra fitting like you have and keep it on the boat. Would be a fairly easy swap on the water. Just more things that can go south. I think you benefit from less fuel restriction to your motor. I was really on the fence with...

1987 228 Seafarer Aluminum tank and Fuel lines replacement

LOL, you have to pick your battles with these things. I was actually avoiding even thinking about replacing the tank and fuel lines since I purchased the boat. Now I feel like I never have to deal with it again . Thanks, Lee

1987 228 Seafarer Aluminum tank and Fuel lines replacement

Hi Ky, It's bare aluminum. Fabricator recommend this to me. I know there are many different opinions about bulletproofing a tank, but I usually defer to someone that does this kind work for a living. Since the original tank was mostly in saltwater, and the deck plates leaked due to age and lack...

1987 228 Seafarer Aluminum tank and Fuel lines replacement

Received new tank yesterday. Thanking Shawn (UCPA111) -I think that stands for U See Pennsylvania...I grew up outside Pittsburgh. And Paul Spisak from Patriot Marine Fabricating in NJ for making such a nice looking tank that was tested to USCG standards, and packaged superbly for transit across...
