    Seafarer Grady bracket

Who ever used a steel plug ( even S/S) on ally had rocks in their head. I would drill it out start with a 1/4" bit , 3/8" next and then 1/2". If you stuff up the thread on the aluminum don't worry to much drill it bigger and use one of these:

    Seafarer Grady bracket

I wouldn't use brass on aluminum either. I think his plug would be plastic, it was two piece in my old 228. If you can't get it out and it is plastic just destroy it either by drilling it out or with a heat gun to soften it .

    OX66 Overheat Question

Seasick , you are correct but since he is having overheating problem , I don't know what the housing is like hence the recommendation. Normally one changes the impeller as a precaution long before the engine overheats .

    OX66 Overheat Question

I found that Yamaha water pumps are on the small size on the V6s but adequate when they are in perfect condition. They should last a couple hundred hours if you don't run in the sand or close to it so you stirred up. Merc pumps on big blocks are much more efficient , on my last 250 Merc I ran...

    Auto pilot on 228

I haven't taken her to water yet, the weather hasn't been kind here in the last week, big seas and rain. I will report when I water test Doc . I'm not taking her to water just to calibrate, I will go fishing out wide so not a lot of time to calibrate and test especially if the bluefin turn up...

    Supper replacement

If the flaps are in good condition they will work when stationary provided there no rubbish in there . They worked on my old boat ( new flaps) and they work on the new one as well. I find if water comes in I put the wash-down nozzle in the outlet that will clean all the fish crap out.

    New Grady White Owner

Done the same in my 228, 12" Simrad evo 3, you can even fit a 16" if you want . The only issue is the hatch, I use braid on mine so it doesn't hit the screen but you can use a gas strut of even spring .

    Combing pad removal

Look under and on thew bottom of the bolsters you will see small 1/4 " maybe 3/8" round grommets put your Phillips screwdriver in there and point it upwards . You mat have to try and feel the screw head, once you find one the rest will be easier to find . Undo all of them and then lift the...

Converting 228 aux fuel tank area to storage

What Dennis said plus any water that gets in the bilge will find its way there as well.. I'm sure the cover is not structural in any way. On my new boat it's even screwed down.

    Auto pilot on 228

Thanks for the advice Doc, I asked someone that fits them in, I even told him about the compass located so much forward he said it should be fine, remains to be seen. I bought everything in a kit form, the AP 44 kit includes everything you need for the installation, including T connectors, even...

    Bennett trim tabs

I have no doubt that Bennets are very good and long lasting but they are so slow , the electric Lencos i had before were much faster. Bennet provide excellent customer service just like Grady do.

    251 CE Spreader light switch

The switch should be on the dome light (looks like 2 dimples ) located on the hardtop. That should turn the dome light and the spreader lights.

    Auto pilot on 228

I'm going to install my compass on the compartment forward of the porta potti if that's any help Doc. The pump will go about where you installed yours but I'm going to make a S/steel L bracket to mount it . The way my pump is designed it won't fit inside there with the fittings and the hoses ...

Draining water from the bracket on a 228G

I would just drill it out and destroy it. You then have 2 options do what KY has done in his or use a normal rubber plug like you have on your fish tanks . I never got any water in my old boat that had same bracket as your boat. Make sure the plate on the top seals . If you want to keep it...
