Very common - easy to source locally. But forget about the foam seal - either bed it with something like LifeSeal or, even better, butyl rubber tape.

If it keeps stopping at exactly the same point as you trim up using the handle button, look at the wiring in the engine and/or rigging tube. If it stops at various "half way points", then it could be there or anywhere else along the way in the wiring... but it would be strange to be somewhere...

Using the excavator is cheating... you're supposed to use a buddy to help lift it off by hand and during the struggle bang and chip things along the way! :) Roof line... I think that roof line looks GREAT just the way it is! In fact, I don't think it would look quite as good if it was 7" lower.
