    Wahoo!

Magical: You're absolutely right about Covid getting in the way. I have three trips left to do. I had planned to do the remaining Great Lakes (Michigan and Huron) last summer, but backed out at the last minute when numbers spike up there. So, if Florida can get its act together on a vaccine...

Anyone Ever Removed Arm Rest From Deluxe Helm Chair (w Picture)?

Decided I want to try the SEM Vinyl Coat spray on my well-worn arm rests that Teaklejr recommended. But I'd like to get the arms off the chair for a neater spray job. Wondering if anyone else has removed one of these arms with the 'lock in place' mechanism? I can easily back out the hex screw...

    Superstitions

As bananas ripen they give off a gas that accelerates the ripening and subsequent rotting of other fruit, especially citrus. So in the time of old wooden sailing ships, when British sailors would include bananas in their provisions, the citrus mysteriously went bad and many of the crew got...

    Gulfstream vs 258 for fishing?

Tarheel1: Eurotransom yes, so maybe I should have paid homage to the 265. But without a fishbox back there, the 258 engines are close enough that I can chase a Sailfish around the back end of the boat when fishing alone. But it is also just wide enough to have a couple of built in rod...

    Gulfstream vs 258 for fishing?

Magical and Bird are correct. Grady discontinued the mid-size walkarounds to make room for more dual consoles on the factory floor. Grady told me that DCs were outselling WAs 10 to 1 at the time. With consideration of size, the 258 is the best riding, handling and fishing of the four Grady's...

    Gulfstream vs 258 for fishing?

When we bought our 2005 258 our dealer gave us a 232 to fish for a day as a comparison. As magical said, we thought 258 to head sea a bit better. Maybe 232 took following sea a bit better. Obviously more deck space on 232. But selling point for me was the transom on the 258. Most 'fishable'...

    1st Sail!

Truth be told, my Dad's first sail, with me as "captain", got the same star treatment. He treasured those photos and I'm glad of it.

    1st Sail!

Congrats on your first sail! Used to be that the Billfish foundation would issue a release certificate for a first sailfish release, even to nonmembers. Perhaps they still do. For all future sails, it is recommended to get pictures with the fish still in the water. Sorry to introduce what I...

How To Change Wiper Blade; 2007 282. Success - Thanks!

Everyone: Thank you for the advise, photos and links. I couldn't have asked for a more helpful group of responses. Headed to the boat today to do some cleaning now that Eta has passed (best wishes to everyone in northern peninsula). Will be a little more forceful now that I'm confident in how it...

How To Change Wiper Blade; 2007 282. Success - Thanks!

Keitha: You have given me hope. I think I follow. Both of the stainless blade holders have a fair amount of corrosion. And, truth be told, I somewhat mangled the slide channels on one of the holders making a too-narrow blade fit in a pinch. Now Its time to pay the price for making that blade fit...

How To Change Wiper Blade; 2007 282. Success - Thanks!

Rather than break something, I'll show my ignorance. I can't change a wiper blade! I assumed that lifting the tab and pulling the blade would do it, but no. Maybe pressing that disc? Nope. Probably its just the fact that it has been on there for thirteen years. So I sprayed it down and let...

Peter Jenkins -- Along The Edge Of America

Great read. I've day-dreamed about retracing his voyage someday. Read it twice, at least ten years apart. Love his quote from the Miami Boat Show...

    Oil Change pump?

Been using the manual pumps for many years on various engines. But I'll buy various short lengths of hose to make sure I get a good seal over the dip stick tube. Seems like I get a more complete drain of oil that way.

New Pompanette flip-up bolster seat. Pic added.

I used to position an anchor ball on the seat for my long run days. Then it did double duty as fender. It hit the spot pretty well for my lower back. Bolster seat does better, but anchor ball did the trick at the time.
