    Pompanette Helm Chair Repairs...

YES! Absolutely... So, what I did was use a dremel tool to grind the pockets where these nuts were embedded smooth... I cut a piece of 1/2" x 1" starboard to length from just behind the drain hole to the back of the pocket (i.e., top of your picture)... To make this piece sit correctly, I...

    Pompanette Helm Chair Repairs...

LOL - I had intended to get out to the boat today, but I had too much to do around the house... If the wx is good this week, I may play hooky one day and get out there... I'll be sure to get some posted...

    265 mods

I'd like to replace the main fuse panel in the helm with the same BS box - need more capacity... Just haven't looked at it to see if there's enough room...

Foam tiles in lieu of berth cushions

I don't think you'd need the think, rubber mats used in gyms - I laid interlocking carpet squares over a concrete floor in the basement to great effect... The carpet was a thin, almost felt-like pile over about a 1/4" of rubber foam for cushion... They were cheap and effective...

Autopilot installation in GW 265 Express...

what kind of sealer did you use for the hydraulic fittings? Saw that Loctite 5452 was recommended, but it's $40 a tube...

Autopilot installation in GW 265 Express...

One thing I am going to do is make a mount for the pump... Planning to cut a 1/2" starboard panel that fits the location, imbed a couple screws from behind, and screw the mount into the cavity... The pump will mount with nuts to the panel... I just think this will be easier and more secure...

Autopilot installation in GW 265 Express...

I was inspired by your account, so I dug in and identified what I think is the same location - right? I would also like to use the ORB fittings that came with the kit... I ordered a orb/F to NPT 1/4" M adapter and an orb elbow... I ordered both in stainless steel, but now I am not sure if I...

    Removing Cabin Bolsters...

Yea, I tore mine out... The screw heads were impossible to locate in the bolster seam, and I knew I didn't care about saving the bolsters... Only thing I was worried about was if they were made of plywood - turned out to just be a plastic board, so they came out easy enough...

Adding a divider to my 265 Express Fishbox...

Got most of it done today... Could not have turned out better, IMHO... Shaping the panel and getting it to fit well both standing up and lying down was a bit tedious, but it worked out well... The cavity is a little wider at the top, but since the panel lies down, the sight gap along the...

    2001 265 Express seat backs...

Wanted to revive this thread - it's something I like to eventually do... It appears one approach is surface mount rail base, while the other is more like a flush socket mount... I'd favor the latter, just to have the mounting HW flush, but I'd worry about cutting holes... Are the originals...

    Removing Cabin Bolsters...

Yea, seems like a lot of folks don't overnight on boats this size - use the cabin more for storage... In my case, I live an hour from the marina, so it's nice to be able to overnight so that I don't have to get up so early on a fishing day... Might as well make the most of it... :-)

    Removing Cabin Bolsters...

One thing I did that has proven to be a winner was removing the cabin bolsters surrounding the v-berth of my 265 Express... The primary issue was the fact that the bolsters trapped the mattress cushions directly against the berth... I wanted to do something to make these ridiculously firm...

New Canvas Color: Ivory or Navy?

A&J is making a new set of curtains for my 265 Express... I've opted for old school navy, but am wondering if ivory might have been a better choice? Is there a real advantage to one over the other? I would think navy would hide dirt better and easier to keep clean looking... But Ivory is...

Adding a divider to my 265 Express Fishbox...

Thought about that, but the opening is a couple inches narrower than the box... The there's the issue with the gas springs, and the fact that the lid doesn't open past a certain angle... The starboard pieces required to make a channel would have to extend from the walls to the edge of the...

Adding a divider to my 265 Express Fishbox...

The least used area of my boat is the fishbox... I rarely need that much space for fish (striper fishing on the Chesapeake rarely brings anything large), so I usually just put 20 lbs of ice in a cooler... What I am planning on doing is adding a 13" tall, 3/4" thick starboard divider across the...
