    Bottom Paint Removal

I had the bottom of my old 1975 204C soda blasted to remove the bottom paint after I moved from CT to FL and went from a wet slip to a dry stack. Even after sanding the bottom, the surface was still rough. I repainted the bottom with 2 part epoxy topside paint and it was as smooth as fresh...

2006 228 seafarer fresh water tank

That's how to do it. I lost my pump and filter bowl during a hard freeze in Florida a couple of years ago. The same pump in my truck camper was fine because it was winterized with antifreeze. My washdown pump was fine. Maybe because it had saltwater in it.

    Battery size for 04 Gulfstream

The type of engine and the number of accessories you have determines the battery size requirement, not the boat. Each engine has it's own cold cranking amperate, marine cranking amperage, and reserve capacity specifications. Some engines, like your F250, draw current from the battery when they...

    engine wont go down

I just replaced the relay (solenoid) on my F250 that had a similar problem. Mine would go down but not up. Identifying the problem is simple. As Dennis said, if the problem persists with both the switch on the engine and the one on the throttle, it is likely the relay. Check all of the...

    Stability of old hulls

Bonnie the Bait Lady's house was flooded by Hurricane Hermine and she hasn't been out since the storm. Her barge made it through OK. Some of the locals have been contributing help her out. Hopefully, she'll be back out there soon.

    Stability of old hulls

The docking behavior of the SV2 hull, at least my 226, seems to defy the laws of physics. Boats generally fall into 2 different categories when docking. Say you're pulling up to a dock on the starboard side. If you ease into the dock at a 20 degree of so angle, cut the helm hard to the starboard...

    Stability of old hulls

The SV2 hull is very different from the older design when drifting. The old 204C was about the most stable 20 footer ever made for drifting and you have probably been spoiled. It will drift sideway in a current so that everybody can fish over one side. The reverse chine extends far forward...

    Transom Damage?

That aluminum cap was the worse idea Grady White ever had. I hate to say it, but it looks like you have a wet and rotted transom. The bubble you are seeing is a sign on delamination of the fiberglass from the wood. Stand on your anti-ventilation plate and jump up and down. If you see any...

    Engine Flush

It's always best to flush after every trip. Back in the old days when I kept a boat at a wet slip in Niantic, engines were only flushed at the end of each season. After about 5 years, problems started to pop up with most of them. To keep an older 2-stroke engine going for as long as possible...

    92 Overnighter 204c 200 Yamaha - what mounting hole?

My old 1975 204C came with the engine in the top hole (all the way down). I mounted the first replacement engine higher up at the second hole. That resulted in more ventilation on turns and in rough seas, but I got more rpm. The best thing to do is look at where your anti-ventilation plate is...

    Mechanical Steering

I replaced the steering and control cables on my old 204C many years ago. I don't recall needing to unbolt the engine. It wasn't too hard of a job. The transom mounting bracket should also be replaced. As I recall, the length was 18' for the steering cable and 22' for the control cable. But my...

    92 Explorer & F250 Prop

Your probably getting a lot more slip with a 21" prop than what you'll get with a lower pitch prop. I've seen several 24' Grady's with 250 hp engines and they were all running 17" props. For reference, my 22' turns 5800 with a 17" Yamaha SSII prop on an F250.

    92 Explorer & F250 Prop

You need a 17" pitch prop. That should bring you up closer to 6000 rpm, which is where you need to be. The F250 does not do well when it's over propped.

    yama-lube vs other brands

I don't know if you are asking about 2-stroke or 4-stroke oil. First of all, either Yamalube product is pretty good stuff. Both the 2-stroke and 4-stroke products contain a good dose of molybdenum trialkyldithiocarbamate (MoTDC) or a related moly carbamate, which is a very good extreme...

    Grady 232 vs. 228

A 228 is plenty of boat for the west coast of Vancouver Island. I would not attempt to pull a 232 up there even with a diesel. I fished all over the Island with a 17' Silver Streak. I towed it with a Dodge Cummins with while hauling a truck camper. I would not want to be pulling a wide load on...

    Battery Advice

The Deka Marine Masters are excellent batteries. I got 6 years out of the pair that came with my Grady and only swapped them out because of their age. The both still passed a load test. They are dual purpose batteries, not starting batteries. They have the reserve capacity to meet Yamaha's...

HELP: Transducer Advice on new Frd275

Through hulls are very easy to install and they won't leak or compromise the integrity of the hull as long as you don't try putting a big commercial unit in there. I always feel better doing the installation myself. You just find a suitable spot to one side of the centerline, such as the water...
