    Questions on Swamping and Submerging

No tabs with a following sea. You can use your tabs to bring your bow down with a moderate head sea. But in big seas or a bad inlet where you can't run on plane, don't use your tabs or you might burry your bow. A little tab on one side can be used to raise the windward side of your bow to reduce...

    Questions on Swamping and Submerging

Leave the transom the way it is. Notched transom boats seem to have a bad reputation because of the perceived problem of taking waves over the stern. Once you learn how to run your boat correctly, it just won't happen. Notched transoms, especially ones like yours with a folding splash guard...

    2006 228 switches

You're going to need to use a product that contains bleach in order to get rid of mildew stains. That stuff is really hard to remove since the mold grows deep into soft material such as rubber or vinyl. Just about any mold remover spray would work. They mostly all contain the same stuff. You...

Should it trim this far down?

Some folks trim all the way in like that for trailering. The purpose is to keep the load off of the hydraulic rams of the tilt and trim mechanism. You can accomplish the same thing with the engines trimmed out more for better road clearance by bracing them with a 2x4 or using a MyWedge on the...

Running transducer wiring on Seafarer 228

I've replaced transducers several time on my 226 and it is actually very easy. Tie a piece of 60 lb monofilament line to the plug end of your transducer wire and pull it through when you remove the old transducer. Then tie the line to the plug end of the new transducer wire and pull it back...

    adding A/C to a 1993 22' Seafarer

My wife and I spent many nights aboard our Overnighter and older Seafarer. I don't recall ever getting much sleep though. Too confined, wet, and noisy from hull slap at anchor or at a mooring. Don't think that AC would have helped much. I can't envision where you could mount a Honda 2000 near...

    F250 Yamaha 2005 idle

Before you start ordering parts, you really need to run a diagnostic and look for codes. In addition to the TPS, there are also accelerator position sensors that could be the source of your problem (although I doubt that would give your symptoms). The other possibility is air leakage in the...

    F250 Yamaha 2005 idle

It's likely a sensor that sending an intermittent bad signal. I would suspect the throttle position sensor. These often throw a code each time they fail. I would take it to a dealer and have them download the log and any warning codes.

help with purchasing a 1999 GW adventure

That's a little high. That boat in good condition would sell for about $12,000 around here. But if it is in excellent condition and was keep in a dry stack, it could be worth the asking price. Everything depends on the condition. That engine is reliable but uses a lot of fuel. Low hours are not...

    228 dark blue body trim

No Bob, I didn't recommend acetone for removing your scuff marks. I recommended GoofOff, which is a mixture of toluene and xylene. Here's a little organic chemistry lesson: Acetone - a polar solvent that mixes readily with water and dries very quickly. It removes scuffs from vinyl/rubber rub...

Removing a serious scuff mark on hull side.

Goof Off Professional Strength Stain Remover from Home Depot or Lowes. It's a mixture of xylene and toluene that will take off just about anything without harming gel coat or fiberglass. Then use a rubbing compound to shine things back up and re-wax or polish.

    Replacement Scupper Drain Hose

The metal reinforcement wire on my scupper drain hoses are rusting out and hoses are starting to leak. I called Grady and was told that they still use and recommend metal reinforced hosing for the scupper drains. I assume that this is some type of engine coolant hose. I can see this problem...

    2006 228 rear starboard cushion

You may be in luck. I have a brand new one for a 226 that has not even been unwrapped. I'm pretty sure that it is the same one used on the 228 and that the port and starboard seats are identical. Call Grady White to confirm this and get a price on a new one. Then send me a private message and...
