Mississippi, Ohio, Cumberland Rivers and Kentucky Lake. Eleven days, through to pulling boat.

Continuing Great Loop one section at a time. Put boat in at Grafton, Il, in a very low Mississippi River. Some nice high bluffs along the east side of the river. Put away for the night at Alton Marina, just ahead of Melvin Price Lock. Really nice people at Alton Marina.

    268 Islander performance questions.

I may be speaking out of turn here, but... Best way to get to a link you're looking for is to click 'search', 'advanced' and then enter '268' (or 270) and 'twins' (separated by a coma) in the topic and 'ocnslr' in the author. That way you'll get the full breadth of the info since each response...

    268 Islander performance questions.

ElMar. If OCNSLR doesn’t reply to your post shortly, do a search of his posts of the same topic. He has answered this question many times - although I believe his boat is an Islander 270. He started out with a single engine on his boat then went to twins, so his is a good case study in the pros...

    Tough to change. HELP

Actually, its a little easier on my old eyes. I'm not big on change either, but once used to it, I suspect I'll see it as an improvement. Do wish I knew change was afoot, though. I need to figure out how to get a photo in that circle - that's nicer than a big 'W'. Rob

    228 vs 205

Goose. I’ll offer my two cents. We were making a similar decision a while back. We had our 208 (same hull) for ten years and I had two-foot-itis and really liked the layout of the 228. Our dealer arranged a test ride and there was a light chop. The improvement in ride was immediately...

    Poor Mans AC

This 12” fan from Atwood is what I use on my boat trips. It plugs into your boats 12v to charge the fan's battery during the day. That charge will get you through the night on low or medium fan speed, but probably not on high speed. Or, you can just run it off your boat's 12v all night and...

Forward Bilge Question- Related to Lake Erie Run

Hmmmm. Somehow I lost a post I thought I had made. We did the test of hitting the through-hull with a hose with a sweeping motion while standing in the boat. Even though it was at a poor angle, water came in the hose and past the bilge pump within seconds. While it may not have been the only...

Forward Bilge Question- Related to Lake Erie Run

Jonah. Thanks for the link. It’s a good idea for me to check those screws. I’ve been pretty tough on the rubrails on these trips when pulling in to so many unfamiliar marinas. The carpet stayed dry while the forward bilge was collecting water. It didn’t get wet until I sprayed the port window...

Forward Bilge Question- Related to Lake Erie Run

Well the boat returned home with the forward bilge bone-dry. This despite the driver going through quite a bit of rain on the east coast, he said. But he always trailers with the drain plug out, so I’m guessing that he went up and down enough grades to move any water to the rear. That was...

Forward Bilge Question- Related to Lake Erie Run

Thanks for all the thoughts. I will follow up on each. Every sound or bit of water gets a elevated in my mind when so far from home. Our boat's sink also would get wet on a rough day (I put a cork in it) which led me to wonder about intrusion here. The idea of a loop is a good one, but I'm...

Forward Bilge Question- Related to Lake Erie Run

Question and possible answer to pose to this group. Every few days while making my trek across Lake Erie, I could hand pump 2-3 gallons of water from the forward bilge. I didn’t like that. Especially while traveling, I like dry bilges so I don’t have to wonder where the water came from...

    Possible Re-power 07 Marlin

Well, to add another observation. If you stayed with Yamaha's newer F250, I believe you’d still notice improvement in power and fuel economy. When I repowered from a 2005 Yamaha 3.4L F250 to a 2010 4.3L F300 on the same boat, I noticed a significant difference in midrange torque and my fuel...

Re: Finally on Lake Erie. Pictures Included But, each trip ends and planning the next begins. My hauler met me with a slightly over-sized trailer. He had delivered a 39’(?) Midnight Express on his way to get me. He had the rear bunks narrowed up just right for me. In the photo he was in the...

Re: Finally on Lake Erie. Pictures Included Sorry, I find I’m taking things out of order here. My one really calm water stretch was the afternoon of a long day when I went from Huron, OH to Erie, PA, a distance of about 160 miles on my GPS. I followed curve of the shoreline, not...

Re: Finally on Lake Erie. Pictures Included Family: in answer to an earlier question, I did not make a stop at any of the islands. I had intended to, but... When I start these trips I’m usually anxious to cover ground, since I have limited time. And when I was in that area is when I was...

Re: Finally on Lake Erie. Pictures Included Will post more in next day or two - with pictures. Took advantage of south winds and completed trip. Left Erie three days ago at sunrise on SE 10-15. Seems to me (based on a scant 7 days of experience!) an Erie 10-15 is a short period chop that...

Re: Finally on Lake Erie. Picture Included Another from earlier in the trip. Morning departure from Huron muni boat basin. Great place. I would stay there again. *deleted oversized pic* I don’t recall exactly where this is, near Cleveland,I believe. Any two nuclear cooling towers should...
