I bet it is your cam seal. #21 in the pic. Not hard to change. You have to remove the belt and the gear. Then you can dig it out and pop in a new one. I can post the procedure if you are wanting to tackle it yourself. Retiming is easy.
I usually flush my motor using the hose under the cowling right away when I load up at the boat ramp using my fresh water wash down. It is best to flush the salt water out before it has a chance to start drying up and leave salt deposits. If I have to run the motor for any length of time on the...
I have the same copper tubing in my 88 offshore. I’ve had the new style hoses for a year now and haven’t gotten around to replacing them yet. I need to do that soon myself.
It looks like the new tilt style helm would fit in there nicely. Then you could do away with the spacer and gain some...
It is not that bad. Make sure you is which style will work the best. Helm behind the dash or mounted on top. The bleeding is easy if you follow a certain technique. If you decide to tackle this one, I will be happy to post the bleeding procedure for you. If you post some pics, it will help.
I have pulled a few hundred bearing carriers with that tool before I got the real one. You just have to know how to heat the housing with oxygen and acetylene without damaging the unit.
Thanks everyone. I am hoping it will work out. This is the second coat of the oil. I mixed 3 parts terpentine to 1 part tung oil for 2 coats so far. I have never used tung before, so I will see how it holds up. I read that I should lightly sand with 320 between coats and allow 2 to 3 days to...
Thanks seasick. I fabricated this tool back in 1997 before I had the $ to buy all the right ones. Lol. Been using the socket to install seals forever also. Had to make a tool for the Yamaha ds install since the seals are lip up on both and the tool needs just a few thousands clearance to...
I am recently refinishing all my teak on my 24 offshore. I have half the teak done, but hoping someone has a good idea on how to make the process of sanding the door slats easier. I spent hours on the first door. I have 1 door left. I am sanding all the teak down to 1000 grit and applying tung...
Been there but not done that. Lol. I go out all the inlets on the east coast of fla, and they are no joke when you have a wind blowing the opposite direction of the current. During a king tide, it is especially rough.
Before I had my special tool for this job, I fabricated a flywheel puller and a pair of trailer safety chain hooks and 3 links of the chain. (The left half is what the puller looks like when you buy it.)
I usually change the driveshaft seals and the shift seal every 5 years or so. Those are the weakest links of all the seals. The springs on the ds seal usually holds water n rots them out quickly.
