    Sailfish trim tabs

If you don't see a leak in the plumbing and don't see the reservoir level dropping then the most likely cause of the actuator slowly retracting is not a bad acuator but rather a bad or dirty solenoid valve. These valves are located on the reservoir assembly and should be colored;, one is green...

Looking for input on transom cracks

The strength of a transom is very much dependent on the lamination of fiberglass, resin and coring acting as one integral piece.

    Sealing Deck Hatches

Here is a variation on the usual painters tape. When done correctly it works very well. Use masking tape to cover the area that will have caulk as well as an area wider of course. Befor using and caulk, possition the fitting to be sealed in the hole. The outer edges of the fitting should have...

Patching a hole in console top, proper procedure?

You should watch the video. It explains the theory of matching to fool the eye. The trick is to sand a tapered area at least three times the width of the patch and gel coat the larger area. The outer 'ring' of the area still has the old gelcoat covered by the new color matched gelcoat. As you...

Patching a hole in console top, proper procedure?

BoatworksToday also has a video on blending and matching gelcoat. In theory it is simple, in reality it can be a challenge. For me, it is impossible since I am color 'deaf'

Looking for input on transom cracks

Pressure treated should not be used for fiberglass repairs. Marine plywood is the better choice as far as wood goes. The sheen on the plywood is epoxy. Plywood has to be 'wetted' with several coats of epoxy to prevent it from sucking the epoxy out of the fiberglass as it is applied.

Patching a hole in console top, proper procedure?

Here is one of the repair videos. Note that the repair does not use a plug, just fiberglass. The key to a good process is layering and tapering.

Patching a hole in console top, proper procedure?

I agree on not filling with putty. I will see if I can find the video. I know it is there somewhere. Regarding putting the compass in the instrument cluster, I suggest you test out that idea somehow. If the compass is near stray magnetic fields it will not read correctly or read at all depending...

Patching a hole in console top, proper procedure?

I second the referral to the Boatworks Today utube channel. If you want the patched surface to be level with the existing surface, the job is a bit more complex than you might think. Watch the videos.

    Mystery Part & Stainless Cleaning

The Woody wax is worth a shot if the meatal is lighted pitted. I have applied Woody Wax and let it sit overnight. It helps somewhat. Woody Wax is also a great product for decks. Easy to apply and buff. Read and follow the instructions and be aware that while it is drying, it can be incredibly...

1985 seafarer under mount seat bracket

What do you mean by seat bracket? Are you referring to the slider piece that attaches to the seat and slides onto the pedestal?

    Bunks for 307

According to Grady the center of gravity for a fully loaded 307 with power is about 10 foot plus a few inches. If that is the case, it seems that your bunks are too short. You want to have the COG close to the the middle of the bunks. Simple math would say that the bunks should be 18 to 20 feet...

What's the best caulk to use for mounting a new transducer on a Grady

Just put some caulk or sealant that is OK for use below the water line into the holes and on the screws themselves. You do not need to or want to apply sealant to the bracket. 4200 is fine, you will be able to remove the screws later if needed. Note that many silicone caulks are not intended for...
