    228 Prop help needed

The 1.75:1 gear ratio of the 4.2 L engine means that it would turn LESS rpm to get the same speed with the same amount of slip relative to the 3.3 L with a 2:1 ration. The extra torque of the larger engine lets it swing a higher pitched prop.

Towing The Seafarer 228 With Chev Tahoe

I once pulled my old 22 Seafarer from Pine Island Sound to Tampa with an old Chevy van with a 4.3 L V6. You can tow almost anything with almost anything in Florida where there are no hills. My brother used to pull his old 22' Renken down in Miami with a Ford Pinto (wouldn't advise this). Any V8...

    228 Prop help needed

You're right of course. As the consequence of my old age and senility, I misread that he was using a 19" prop. :sorry

    228 Prop help needed

Your getting 18% propeller slip running 44 mph at 6K rpm. That's not right. I'd bet your engine is mounted too high. My 226 goes 44 mph at 5700 rpm with the same engine and prop. That's without a bracket and a pretty heavy load.

Overall length of grady 226 for marina pricing?

My high dry marina charges me for 24'.

    Yamaha repower

The 4-cylinder 200 Yamaha should be fine for a pre-SV2 hull. They aren't nearly as hard to push and get on plane as the later hull design. Be sure to prop it right.

    Stiff Steering?

Yep. Once you get up on plane, trim the engine out as far as you can before the propeller starts to ventilate. You should feel the steering lighten up as you trim the engine out.

    Grady White Fuel Tank

Yep. Go with marine StaBil. It's a proven product for boat fuel. It won't do much for water. For that you need to keep your tank as close to full as possible during storage. Use non-ethanol fuel if you an get it. It costs more, but your fuel problems will go away.

I need help identifying this Grady white

You don't see enough of those being restored. They're much better looking than the old 204C walk arounds. The hull will pound and they ride wet. But they are the most solid 20' fishing platform ever built IMO.

I need help identifying this Grady white

That's the old Hatteras CS, their first center console. I almost got one of those at the NY boat show in 1975 but got the 204C instead.

    228 Seafarer - Yamaha 225 Fuel Consumption

My F250 burns 8.5 gph at 3700 rpm = 25 mph. It burns 10 gph at 4200 rpm = 29-30 mph. An F225 should give similar numbers at mid throttle.

    228G Performance Info

That's about what my 226 running an F250 does as well. I max out at 5800 rpm turning a 17" prop.

New Etec on the market, impressions?

Lots of interesting technology that should drive the other manufacturers to meet the competition. Etecs have become as reliable as 4-strokes after the first few years that shook out some problems. Like Bob said, I'd let the Evinrude fan boys work out the bug in the Gen 2 motors for a few years...

    2003 F225 Twin O/Bs - MUST READ

You were lucky, actually. Most older Yamaha V6 4-strokes don't last 10 years before the corrosion problem causes issues. It's well established that the dry exhaust system isn't affected by flushing. But the thermostat housing is. Apparently, if you flush a cold engine with the flush attachment...

Which one would you consider buying?

The 2001 has the SV2 hull design. The 1986 does not. I've owned both models. For the modern hull alone, go with the 2001.

What is the correct procedure for using Caulk

jbrinch88 is absolutely right! DON'T use Life Caulk. It's a top deck product that is really only useful for teak, etc. It's a mess to work with and doesn't adhere to metal very well. So it's a very poor choice for bedding hardware. Life-Seal is what you want to use. It is great for bedding...

    HPDI Auxiliary charging lead

Having 2 house batteries is the ideal setup. But I would not operate them in parallel if I were you. I made that mistake years ago. A cell went bad in one battery end totally drained and destroyed the second one. It's best to use a switch and keep them isolated.

Ring Free vs Ring Free PLUS?

I've used Ring Free at the recommended dosage of 1 oz per 10 gallons just like Bob every tank. It doesn't turn the oil black. All it does is to bring the level of Techron to that found in Chevron or Texaco gas. It turns the fuel a yellow color, most likely because Ring Free uses a different...
