    4 Stroke spark plugs

Yep. I pulled mine after 400 hr and they were fine. Didn't even need to be re-gapped. Have you been burning stale fuel or doing a lot of trolling?

    Best Steering/ Autopilot for a Grady 228

You best bet would be to get a separate autopilot system for your trolling motor. The TR-1 from Garmin will do what you want. It will take input from the NMEA 0183 connection on your Humminbird unit. http://www.imarineusa.com/garmintr-1goldmarineautopilot.aspx?gclid=CPaIxaKy6rsCFahj7AodqmIA-g...

Every one I've seen on a Grady was custom made.

What could of caused this piston to melt?

There are several things that can cause one cylinder to run lean and burn up. A bad injector or a bent or damaged valve are 2 common causes.

    chirp technology

Yep. Gill won't talk you into a CHIRP unit unless he thinks you actually need one. He loves to talk about all things sonar. I got to know him a bit when I lived out west.

    4-Stroke Engine Smoking

Most likely one or some of your injectors are leaking. They hold fuel under pressure when the engine isn't running. Have a tech do a leak down test. Mine does the same thing when I don't run it every week. Leaky injectors can lead to oil dilution and accelerated engine wear.

    Seafarer v. Overnighter

The drunken shrimpers run in at night and drag the channel markers out of position. It usually takes a couple of days before they get put back where they belong. Many of the day markers on metal posts that you may remember have been knocked down and replaced with cans and nuns. I'll probably...

    Seafarer v. Overnighter

I never should have posted that I was interested in a 4 bladed prop. I bent 2 blades on my prop today running down the river. That's 3 times so far this year.

    Seafarer v. Overnighter

The differences in handling between a 226 and a 228 are very real. All of the things that I didn't like about the 228 ride could be minimized by using the trim and tabs judiciously. I just don't like the ride of bracketed boats in rough seas. I prefer a more forgiving hull. I don't like using...

    Repower

You have to be skeptical about the "actual" hp of outboards. The information is usually an internet myth that comes from a single test with a sample size of one. It is impossible, even with modern manufacturing procedure, to produce engines with exactly the same power output. The hp of an...

    Seafarer v. Overnighter

As you can see from my signature, I've had a few of them over the years. I also did test runs in the SV2 208 and 228 before settling on my current 226 Seafarer. 1. The old 204c, while a very wet riding boat in bigger seas, will handle a 1 ft chop very well. The hull has a mind of its own and...

    Re-Trailering for a 228G

As long as your trailer is rated in excess of your fully loaded boat, you should be fine. I had an aluminum Continental trailer on a previous boat and it tracked great and held up well. Absolutely get the target bunks. If you have to load in a cross wind or current, you'll be glad you have...

Offshore Listing, Trim Tabs or something else

My 226 lists to port as well. It seems to be a characteristic of the SV2 hull when swinging a heavy stainless steel prop. The condition is easily corrected by applying port tab (the starboard rocker switch). The torque of a single right handed prop tends to cause a list to port on many deep V...

Anyone with a new boat rusting?

It may well be that Grady is having a supplier problem. They don't manufacture or spec their own hardware. They use branded hardware just like any other boat manufacturer. I've always found their hardware to be high grade. On par with Whaler and the other higher tier brands. The problem is...

    Grady White 330 transducer placement

I just re-read your post. The Airmar ss264 is essentially an M260 split into 2. You should have 2 through hull transducers, one for 50 kHz and one for 200 kHz. I am not familiar with the Furuno 86 kHz transducer, but I can't see how it can be paired with half of a ss264. Maybe that's your problem.

    Grady White 330 transducer placement

I was referring to my 226. I have a Humminbird 998 fish finder connected to 2 transducers. An Airmar B60 mounted through the hull as I described and a transom mounted Humminbird XHS 9 HDSI 180 T. The Airmar can track bottom in seas up to a 2' Gulf chop (5 sec or less period). The bottom line...

    Grady White 330 transducer placement

Well, you never want to mount a transducer through a planning strake. The strake lifts the boat in part by channeling air underneath the hull. It's best to locate the transducers on an angled part of the hull using either a tilted element or a faring block. I have my Airmar transducer located...

Anyone with a new boat rusting?

When you use a boat in saltwater, you need to extend the ladder to rinse it every time. Otherwise the salt will cause the interior surface to rust. Stainless steel is rust resistant, not really rust proof. You get crevice corrosion in any area that is not exposed to air. That's because the...

Transom shower use for motor flush

I don't see any reason that it wouldn't work if you can find a way to hook up the correct hose adapter. Any flush is better than no flush at all. Static flushing with the engine tilted out of the water doesn't require much pressure at all. As long as you see water coming out of the tell tale...
