    Trim tabs Overnighter.

A freshwater lake, even a big one, is a lot different from offshore. You might be able to smooth out the chop a bit with tabs. A cheaper solution might be to try a stabilizer plate that will give you some stern lift without adding drag. The only one I've tried that does this well is made by...

    Trim tabs Overnighter.

That pre-SV2 hull has a will of its own. It doesn't respond well to trim tabs or even to the engine trim angle. The bow likes to ride high even with a lighter engine than yours. Pushing the bow down, which requires enough tab to loose rpm, will make a wet riding hull a lot wetter and won't...

    Water in Fuel

The only problem with that is if you do find water in the separator bowl bowl when you're using ethanol containing fuel is you already have phase separation. While the engine will run until the water/ethanol layer saturates the filter element, the octane level of the fuel phase will only be...

    Water in Fuel

E10 gas will hold up to about 0.5% water. So you may well be OK. There are a few additives that will increase the amount of water that the fuel can hold in suspension. However, the effect is small. It's never more than the volume of fuel additive that you put in the tank. Adding fresh dry E10...

Newbie in need of boat buying advice - considering Grady

The 226 doesn't have the enclosed transom and transom bracket as the 228 does. It does, however, plane out better at lower speeds. That's important to me when I'm running long distances in the slop. I sent you a PM.

Newbie in need of boat buying advice - considering Grady

I fish the same areas you do with my 226. If you would like to take a ride with me and are willing to drive up to Homosassa, send me a PM. I've been in 228's, Gulfstreams, plus older Offshores and Sailfish. I can explain the differences in ride and fuel consumption, but it's too much to go into...

    255 freedom with 500 hp ( advise please )

I don't think that anyone here is being defensive. They just have experience with GW boats that you lack. The etecs are a better choice than the BF250s. I've never been in a 255, but I have been in a lot of other Gradys and they don't like weight at the stern. Even a heavy ice chest will alter...

    255 freedom with 500 hp ( advise please )

Only the manufacturer or builder can rate a hull for maximum hp. It's actually a simple formula that has to do with the length of the boat, tiller vs wheel steering, the general hull design, and the beam at the transom. Everybody has to use the same formula. Just call Grady White about that and...

    Seafarer 226 fuel sender reading

90% of the time the problem is your ground connection. Mine just fell off the other day and needed to be reconnected. It should go to the common ground lug on the transom.

    Battery Switch

Yep. Blue Sea for sure. The Guest switches used to corrode on the internal contacts if you didn't use them a lot. Blue Sea switches seem to be a lot more robust.

    Trailer Tires

The last 4 digits show the week and year of manufacture: DOT U2LL LMLR 3109 In that example, the tire was manufactured on the 31st week of 2009.

    Ethanol 95 Phase Separation

There are no additives that have any significant effect on phase separation. There have been many tests that have shown this and any chemist knows this is the case. You simply can't use enough additive containing an alcohol, glycol, or ether to make a difference. On the other hand, adding more...

    Trailer Tires

Bob, the problem with your fender nuts coming loose could be telling you something about the source of your tire wear. If your trailer is riding correctly, there shouldn't be enough vibration to cause the nuts to back off. The vibration could be the result of poorly balanced wheels or a slipped...

Battery Size & Brand for 228 Seafarer

Grady has been using a pair of Deka Marine Master 27M6 batteries for boats rigged with 150-250 hp Yamahas. They are one of the few Grp 27 starting batteries that meet the Yamaha specs for reserve capacity. They fit, they aren't ridiculously expensive, and they are very good batteries. They are...

    Rust Stains

As everyone is suggesting, any acid will remove the rust stains from the gel coat. Flitz or just about any other metal polish will get the rust off of the stainless steel. If you want to get ride of the problem, remove the stainless steel mounting hardware, shine it up, and re-bed it using 3M...

Marine cooler vs using fish box

When I'm fishing only 2 people in my 226 and not planning to catch anything too long, we'll often use a 72 quart Igloo instead of the fish box. However, if the cooler is loaded with ice, bait, and fish, it makes by boat run bow high if I have more than 3/4 of a tank of gas. The cooler rides up...

    Plugging Transom Screw Holes

Yes, the West System stuff is the best to use for a permanent seal. I drill the holes slightly larger to clean out any loose wood or old adhesive and then fill them up with six-10: http://www.westsystem.com/ss/six10-thickened-epoxy-adhesive/ You can also use Marine-Tex. But you won't be able...

Where to put B60 through hull on 226?

Yes, I'm suggesting the forward 72 gallon tank compartment. Your stern bilge is too crowded. If I remember correctly how the old hulls were, the rear of that compartment should be about 20 degrees, which I assume is the angle for your B20. You should ask Grady White about this, but I'm pretty...

Where to put B60 through hull on 226?

I see that you have the older type of layout with the forward 72 gallon tank compartment. That's where to mount your B60. Put it as far toward the stern as possible.

Huge empty space where aux tank goes- unused storage?

Back in the day, it was common to use the forward 72 gallon fuel tank compartment to store scuba tanks. They would use a stainless steel spring that would lift the piece of floor panel and secure it with stainless steel latches like the ones on the newer cabin door top panels and stainless steel...
