    Edson Steering knob

Metal band worked for me, but had to add a bit of 'lok-tite' to the threads to stop it from working loose over time. Would not be easy to drill a straight hole through the rounded surface of the steel wheel.

Cruising Chesapeake in January - advice?

Jeager, Marty & Brian: Thanks for your help. I suppose I'm closer to transiting at least on the more exposed portion of the trip. If weather is good, I'll probably go up to 100 miles in a day. I'm a bit concerned about getting weathered in, so will run when I can. Taking my 78 yr. old dad on...

Cruising Chesapeake in January - advice?

I have an opportunity to cruise through Chesapeake Bay this January (only time available). Plan is to start in Baltimore and end in New Bern, NC. Asking for help from those who know the area. Two questions: 1) What is most common sea condition in January? My Journey 258 can run comfortably in a...

worth repowering? Single to twins on 258...

How far out do you go? The issue for me in the current location is that that canyons are 50 miles plus out from Ocean City. 25-30 and I'd be fine with a single, but wouldn't want to get stranded at the edge of the earth with no backup. That said the current engine has been absolutely flawless...

worth repowering? Single to twins on 258...

I test rode this hull with twin 150s and they are a very good match. It is a good way to go, but we didn't go that route. After putting 1300 hours on an F250, we repowered with the F300 last year. On the advice of the dealer, we went with a slightly larger prop. That gives us a best cruise of...

    Saltwater Cleanup Survey.

Bill: Ditto the obsessiveness. Although, as it gets hotter and I get older, I'm more mellow. Now I find I can let myself do a good job on either the interior or exterior, alternating. Still give it lots of freshwater, especially on the hull, but don't have to scrub everything. My rationale is...

FL West Coast: Safe Depth to Run Offshore?

Thanks Jim. Very helpful. Long speed zones are more tolerable when you know what's coming. Rob

    Electronics Box Spring Hinge

Hinges on my 258 had blind-side fasteners that I could not find a way to get to. Wound up just going with stainless screws and a little adhesive. Help up fine for years. Hope yours are easier to get behind.

FL West Coast: Safe Depth to Run Offshore?

One last question for the west-coast folks. If we do run inside south of Anclote, about how much time needed to reach Sarasota? I'm trying to gauge how desperate I should be to run outside. My 77 year-old dad will be with me. If it does get a lttle bumpy, I plan to remind him of the time he...

FL West Coast: Safe Depth to Run Offshore?

Wow. Thanks a bunch for the timely and helpful replies. Hope to run outside to Tampa Bay and I'll be sure not to cut corners. South of that, looks a little more scenic inside. Not going all the way south. Will cut across Lake O to see something different. St. Martins Reef sounds familiar from...

FL West Coast: Safe Depth to Run Offshore?

Will be making an annual boat trip in a few weeks, this year putting in at Hudson, FL and making our way south. A question for those familiar with the Gulf from Hudson down to the start of ICW or Tampa Bay - how far offshore should we be to safely run on plane? Charts make it look like 10' to...

    Grady White Journey 258

What Bob said. I like to have 3' of water under me in the bay. Less water than that and I take it slow. That said I love my 258. Perfect boat for me.

    repower 1998 voyager

Brian raises a good point. The Voyager does not have the running bottom extending through to where the engines mount on the transom. (I believe that it was the prevalence of four strokes that caused Grady to extend the running bottom on many of their models.) It is likely that you'll feel the...

palm beach fla fishing guide help

Not too many inshore guides in Palm Beach, but there are a few. Captain Danny Barrow is one I know personally. Never fished with him, but I know he is a good guy. Contact him here: http://gosnookfishing.com/home.htm But I really recommend you call Tom Twyford at the West Palm Beach Fishing Club...

    258 Replacement Console

Cletus: Similar to Parthery, but I used the old plexiglass door as the template for a starboard insert. Please ignore the cardboard 'sunshade'. I've just returned from boating from New Bern, NC to home in West Palm Beach. A storm took my bimini top off the first day and I needed some glare...

    Abacos Trip suggestions

Bob: Assuming you're leaving from Lake Worth Inlet, do you know where you'll launch your boat, and, more importantly, where your truck and trailer will be? I suggest Lake Park Marina as the safest for the truck. Also, the Gulfstream Grady Group is going to West End in June and Green Turtle in...
