Wiring Advice re: Fuse Panel and Common Bus

As I am looking to replace the battery cables and the wire running to the helm, I would like some advice on how best to wire the new fuse panel and common busbar that I am replacing. I ended up ordering the Blue Sea System Common Bus Bar 2300 (150Amp) and Blue Sea System Fuse Panel 12 circuits...

    1998+ seafarer fish box drain

I’ll have to double check and take a picture . The bottom part, yes, but I feel like I don’t have that outer lip that the top part has.

Deck Scupper drains on 228 Seafarer

For those that are interested, Marine Town still sells the stainless steel cockpit drains to individuals. It’s about $40 a piece plus shipping, taxes and surcharge so around 100 or so.

    1998+ seafarer fish box drain

Did you ever end up getting this done? I am looking into addressing a leak on my port side fish box but where the tubes connect to the T Connector.

    Re Power

I would go with the 250 electronic. However, definitely check what your boat is rated for and how it sits in the water. Also, shop around as I thought the Suzuki’s were heavier in relation to Mercury Four and Yamaha. Price might be right but I would be nervous about how much it would weigh it...

228 Grady owners experience with In Hull transducers

Which location do you find better? I thought the feedback was to not put by the drain plug due to how the water might run off the hull at that point. I am planning to put two new transducers and was curious if I should put them almost side by side like my current ones to the right like yours...

Need Advice on Main Circuit Breaker Replacement (30A)

Not sure what you currently have but I used that model to replace my prior breaker (see photo). Just measure your terminals. I believe that model has 1/4in studs and the next one up was 5/16 . Unfortunately, I had to modify my terminal as it didn’t fit either and I didn’t have the tools to...

Electrical changes needed to go from a single to twins?

Well, I assume you are expecting to have a separate cranking battery for each and a switch depending on how you want to run them. Is that what you are referring to?

    Fixed inop boat horn

Oddly, every time I was about to open it up to check, it would miraculously start working again. Mine looks brand new too so I think it’s more of an electrical issue than something rusting.

    Fixed inop boat horn

Yep! There are a few items on my boat with electrical tape, including the bilge pump and livewell. I can’t wait to replace them this fall. I bought those butt connectors, they worked really well. Did you end up getting a heat gun? I bought a crimper from Amazon for heat shrink that worked...

    Fixed inop boat horn

Interesting - My horn seemed to randomly work in the summer and I haven’t gotten around to fixing it. Oddly, it’s been working perfectly once the weather switched but I need to work on it for sure. For some reason they spliced the wires with electrical tape AND left it between the two casings...

    Livewell Recommendation

Thanks - Hoping to replace almost everything in the bilge this offseason. My boat was a freshwater boat for most of its life but I noticed that the salt air really aged some items rather quickly. For example, the breaker had no rust showing through in May and then in July it was running with...

    Re-locating batteries on a '92 228G

Any idea why this is done? I have a battery on both sides with the oil tank on the port side. I don’t go out enough alone to notice much tilting to either side. However, last time out with my daughter (42lbs) I felt the boat tilt to the port side a little before adjusting. Is there any extra...

Thanks for all the feedback. Going to buy the one that was shared in the link and replace in the off season.

    Livewell Recommendation

Thsnks - I have a feeling mine won’t be easy either as it probably hasn’t been replaced in its twenty years. Did you consider replacing the ball valve in the off season? Wondering whether I should just fix the pump or replace that valve as well while I am down there...

    Livewell Recommendation

Thanks - Maybe it’s just mislabeled on Xylem/ Rule’s website as they only show this listed as motor cartridge and not the full kit, which show discontinued or obsolete. Probably making a big deal out of nothing but was hesitant to replace with Rule if they are no longer making them. So if this...

    Livewell Recommendation

In my 2000 228, I am slowly starting to fix my livewell that isn’t working. Today, I swapped the old breaker with a new one as no power was going to the switch. The switch now has power but no water is pumping into the livewell even though the seacock is open. My assumption is that the...
