HPDI 150 Help, RPMs Low (Fixed, Maybe!)

The motor has lagged behind in RPMs all season. It does seem worse recently but there was always a difference between the two since the beginning of this season but that could be my imagination as far as it getting worse. I will try pulling one plug at a time manually also. From what I...

HPDI 150 Help, RPMs Low (Fixed, Maybe!)

I bought a 20' USB cable extension to have the laptop on the helm with me. Worked good. Engine does not even hesitate when WOT. The boat is not a dog out of the hole, but that motor has to "catch up" with the other. Praying not a weak cylinder. Not having the boat in my yard to run tests...

HPDI 150 Help, RPMs Low (Fixed, Maybe!)

This is the first year with these motors. I wanted to rule out a bad prop, where they are twins and it the boat was not propped right I would suspect both RPMs to be about the same. I am not sure where the HPDI fuel sensor is but it reads over 700psi and never drops. I would have to rely on...

HPDI 150 Help, RPMs Low (Fixed, Maybe!)

I replaced all the LP pumps also. These motors are new to me this year and I went though all those usual suspects when I mounted them on the boat. My motor does not stall, stays running strong and just nothing happens top 3/4 of the throttle, I can see intake valves opening on YDS and TPS...

HPDI 150 Help, RPMs Low (Fixed, Maybe!)

Any HPDI experts here? I am loosing some top end RPM's on one on my 2003 HPDI 150's, changed props and same issue. Compression was good last fall, I plan on checking again, fingers crossed. All filters have been replaced including the metal can filter after VST and mystery filters. Injectors...

Local Grady White Dealer will not work on my Outboard

I'll second fuelinjectorman.com. I have used him several times for various boats. They are under new ownership now, but the old owner made a point to call me and express his confidence with the new owner for future work last time I used him this past spring. The injectors on an OX66 are real...

    Yamaha gauge refurbished?

I did them myself with the directions and supplies from this video. I have done 2 with success and have 2 more to do. The first one I did was so faded you couldn't read it at all and now its good as new.

    Grady 27/28 sailfish owners...

I went from a 24 Offshore to a 272 Sailfish. Night and day difference, I felt like I was in a barge compared to the Offshore. Sold it due to a newborn, we picked up an Islander for the right price until we can upgrade to a 282 or Marlin in a few years, torn on which one. Even the Islander and...

    Isolator Cable Question

The HPDI is the “new” motor. I was looking to see if both wires in the photos are essentially the same, the F150 with the end that was most likely cut off and the HPDI having the original plug on the end. The F150’s are gone and I can’t reference them, just whatever I had for photos. Thanks Andrew

    Isolator Cable Question

The wire going into the boat goes to the batteries. I would have to dig to see exactly where but it is the isolator cable. I am leaning towards cutting that plug off and connecting there where I think that’s how it was on the F150’s but I was just not certain of there was another way to do it...

    Isolator Cable Question

I have searched online and I think I have the answer I am looking for but looking to confirm. Due to the massive corrosion on out 2007 F150's we elected to reposer with low hour HPDI's for a fraction of the cost of repairing or replacing the F150's. I thought I had good documentation on the...

    **Removing sealer like Poli Glow

We just went through this with the Islander we bought last fall. It was a mess with Poliglow, runs everywhere and all. Used commercial grade floor stripper, think is was the Zep mixed 50/50 with a degreaser like Super Clean by Castrol.. Minimal scrubbing with a brush and power wash off. Had...

    Yamaha XO 66 250 issue

When you say surging is it hard to keep a constant RPM? I had this issue once on my 272 with twin OX66's. One motor would hold rock solid and the other would always be drifting at cruise. Ended up being the O2 sensor. It would otherwise run fine at lower RPM's, it was at cruise it was work...

    1986 Tournament 19 are rare?

I would not say rare. The 19 tournaments all seem pretty similar until they went to the euro transom design (1994?). I have always wanted an older 19 tournament to trailer around. Older boats sometimes have a lot of electrical gremlins depending on how many previous owners have been tinkering...

Repower...What To Do With Oil Filler

When my boat was repowered they were just removed and covered with one rectangle piece of starboard. I thought it looked acceptable. In my case the 4 strokes needed powerheads and going back to HPDI's instead. Oil tanks were reinstalled and I just plan to fill from rear hatch and long funnel.

    Cleaning Yamaha Fuel Flow Sensor

Has anyone attempted to and/or been successful cleaning a Yamaha Fuel Management sensor? One of the sensor is not working and before I have to buy a new one I was not sure how serviceable they are. Where it is broke anyways there isn't much to loose but curious to others experiences. Also I...

    228G, What do you think?

$16k doesn't sound bad fixed. I am someone who I guess like to tinker with stuff like that. Without photos in my eyes I would want to do the work myself and know what got replace and replaced correct. For reference 3-4 years ago we bought the a 1991 228G with a blown motor on a trailer with...

    Spring projects...

This years list seems long, but hopefully all manageable in a few full days. Our first pair of HPDI's and we are going through the fuel system. Every time I give the list some thought I think of something else. Pull Injectors and send them for service (done waiting on their return) VST...

New to Us Islander, what Props are you Running, Twin F150's

Thanks for the follow up. Turns out I was not reaching top RPM's most likely due to low compression and massive corrosion in both powerheads. Due to the cost of replacing both powerheads ($15k+) and being too afraid to tackle it myself we repowered with new to us 150hp HPDI's. I have 2 sets...

Transom bang cap: replace with ss, vinyl or glass it over?

When mounting new to us outboards the cap was in need of attention. For the ease of the project we replaced with a new aluminum cap bedded in 5200 and also some starboard spacers so the motors didn't crush the new cap. Saw the idea on this site recently and it worked well. The starboard was...
