    house battery charging

Wiring is fine, all negs are connected in fact all connections are good. yes the small glass fuse is ok. thinking back the house battery probably has never been charged from the engines. my boat is on a lift i plug in the charger after every trip and we use very little 12v accessories until...

    house battery charging

I had been suspicious house was not charging for awhile, I have a dedicated volt meter to that battery and it has been reading low, when starting are sig higher. Grounds are fine all connect at neg buss. Auto pilot was the straw that broke the camels back. Prior only drain was radio and...

    house battery charging

Today was the first trip with new auto pilot and it was great, worked well until the low battery message came up. Today confirmed a problem I thought was occurring. The house battery is not being charged by the accessory charging leads from the motors. I have 3 batteries all new and good...

Seastar Hoses for a 22’ Seafarer

My copper went directly to helm. We disconnected there cut and crimped hose and pulled from bilge. My hose did not start to leak until we pulled new cables for new motor control. It was very brittle in my 30 yr old boat.

Seastar Hoses for a 22’ Seafarer

There was a brass 3/8 comp to 3/8 comp fitting in the bilge around where my oil tanks are. From that point back all plastic.

Seastar Hoses for a 22’ Seafarer

I replaced my 280 Marliln hoses last year, they were copper and started to leak. Getting them out was not hard and made it easier to pass new plastic hoses. If you dont take them out they may leak hydraulic fluid for a while making a mess. My copper did junction with plastic in the bilge...

    autopilot

System in all hooked up and bled. Went for commissioning run yesterday. All went well except for compass linearization which never finished (see below), it was amazing and so much fun. A few points Do spend time in planning stage as to where things will go, wire routes, hose routes. Measure...

What is this Buss for? Grady provides the answer

looks like the work of bubba. 100 amp DC fuse/disconnect. i use them for the wench on my pickup. probably a large motor driven device someplace on the boat. dc neg is not fused, should be a red wire if pos, ie bubba. that wire should stand out like a sore thumb at its final destination.

    construction material

Looking to rebuild and enlarge some wiring and equipment spaces around the helm. It seems most use starboard or some equivalent product for panel material. I am wondering if there is a source of something similar to the laminated plywood Grady used in the original construction. Thanks

    autopilot

So all components in now waiting for mechanic to come by and bleed system with his bleeding device. Not an easy task finding room for the new hoses and tees. Put them mostly in the space on right of helm where chase for wiring to stern is. It is tight and might enlarge that area to...

    solar juice

I do not use solar on my big boat as it is on a lift in the backyard and 120 ac always available. I do however utilize solar in many other applications. For the J14 skiff which has a elec start and single battery I have a 50 watt panel and a charge controller wired up on the dock and connected...

    autopilot

called boat steer and they were helpful and we can make up something that will work, but seemed a little more cumbersome than I would like. My helm is an older version of the seastar system and uses nptf fittings not orb, I will not change them and add a 1/4 nptf to 3/8 tube for the return...

    autopilot

The kit came yesterday and I am a bit overwhelmed. First order of business will be location of pump and accumulating needed fittings and hose. Pump comes with bsp to npt adapter which I assume I will be using. Additional fittings ie tee's will be npt as well and the current seastar hoses and...

    Battery replacement

As often happens battery replacement questions often morph to wiring, charging and maintenance discussions which is a good thing! 2 batteries, one motor I would set up with identical batteries and 2 1-2-both-off switches. That would allow separation of house and starting but allow combination...

    Noco charger

A plug connection ( essentially a splice) in the bilge/transom area for ac power in a marine environment is a scary thought. Even heat shrink splice would not be acceptable in my mind. It should be enclosed in a box as seasick says. On my old grady the ac system was shot, all the ac...

    UGH........New Control Cables

A note of caution, when pulling new control cables in my old marlin it damaged the copper hydraulic lines that were original in the boat. caused a very messy situation in the bilge and pulling new flex lines
