Battery replacement 96. 272 sailfish. Any recommendations I’m thinking Deka group 24

Flooded batteries have always done well for me in boats, golf carts and solar arrays. I agree get the biggest that fit your space. i also believe in spending money on the charging system as that is a very major component to battery longevity.

Considering an older Marlin. Any advice is appreciated!

Sounds like my boat to a tee. 92 grady marlin with 250 Yamaha 2 strokes. I have had it 18 mos now. Are you handy, if not be careful. Cant say anything bad about my engines, they seem to be running great. Biggest problem was a tilt/trim motor going out on one which required pulling and dry...

    hydraulic leak

Arrived in Fla last Friday with great expectations for fishing. Just replaced both tilt/trim motors, impellers, trim tab pump, throttle remote and a few smaller items. Met by a hurricane whose name I still cannot pronounce and more troubling a steering fluid leak of significant proportion...

    blocked up

So after the last trip and some heavy thinking we opted to go for repair rather than replace. We were thinking of pair of 250 Suzuki for around 40k, or fix all problems (some of which were not engine related) for much less. Could not pull the trigger on 40k engines for a boat I only paid 15k...

    Battery chargers

Can anyone verify that both aux charging wires can go to same battery? I may just have them go to a spare battery switch I have and then select which one will be used to charge the bank when running.

    Battery chargers

I stand corrected, my only pathetic defense is the use of "may not" a less than absolute term. Reading on DC electrocutions was very interesting and I doubt I will ever be able to look at a car battery the same again!

I thought I saw that was not a good idea, was I wrong. I do hate that orphan wire floating around in the transom.

    Battery chargers

The previous post concerning the different amperage levels on the ac and dc side of charging is very important. This is the basis for sizing wiring, fuses and connectors when setting up your system. The dc current may not electrocute you but faulty wiring or connections will sure arc or heat...

    Battery chargers

Sorry not liking that set up at all. I have a 3 battery, 3 bank, 3 battery switch system set up on my Grady. Bat 1 and 2 are for engines and set up with a 1-2-both switch each. Bat 3 is the house battery and separate from engine batteries and only has a on-off switch. All are connected to a...

    Battery chargers

A string or bank of batteries can be effectively charged/maintained by a single source and I do believe most of the discussion here really pertains to maintaining batteries not charging them. Certain conditions must be met however to properly do this. The batteries must be of the same voltage...

    Shore Power tripping GFCI outlet

I am not clear on exactly how your situation is wired. A schematic/ wiring diagram from the pole to boat would help clear that up. What I think is happening is when you plug your shore power cord into a 15 amp gfi outlet the gfi trips. The way a gfi works is it measures the current from the...

    Solar Battery Charger

Have used the above battery tender for about 3 years to maintain starting battery on portable generator. Only addition was a small digital volt meter to monitor system a little easier

    Solar Battery Charger

When do I need a charge controller and why? The safest way to figure out if you need a charge controller is to take Battery Amp Hour Capacity and divide this by the Solar Panel max. power amp rating. If the quotient is above 200, you don't need a controller. If the number is less than 200 than...

    Dual Battery Tender

as long as batteries have equal voltage, capacity and state of charge they could be maintained in parallel with one maintainer or charger/maintainer

Onboard battery charger recommendation for Freedom 235

I replaced my factory charger on my 92 Marlin with a Pro Nautic 30amp 3 bank and love it. My boat does spend significant time on the lift so battery maintenance was a must. Easy to set up easy to use and all the features needed to maintain batteries when not in use, but a little pricey. You...

    AGM Batteries

A stored battery in the north east (MA) should be on a maintainer and over 3 years of winter storage without does not surprise me the battery went bad. I would try to restore with a maintainer desulfator I have used Battery Minder products with good results for this many times. Will not make...

Fuel sender unit for aux tank

I may be wrong here but if you jump the sender wire to the sender ground shouldn't the gauge read full ( 0 resistance). If you jump the ground to neg buss in battery compartment if ground was bad should now read accurate level. Intermittent bad ground was the issue on my boat and so now i...
