    Towing 30'+ & CDL, Non-Commerce

OK, so it is, indeed, GCVWR. Thanks for that info. I guess you'd have to check the available trailer models from a specific manufacturer. They won't have a model available for "every" weight - so it could be that (for that particular manufacturer, anyways) the next lower weight-rating is not...

    Towing 30'+ & CDL, Non-Commerce

I don't have the exact answer, but I've towed (or a co-worker) heavier boats than yours (and look larger, too) and have never been stopped - this goes back probably over the last 20 years or so. But, again, have never been stopped... which means have never been questioned :) EDIT... And, just...

    192 Repower Question

Thinking more about that weight... the question that comes to mind is "WHY is the Tohatsu so much lighter. What is it MISSING to account for that much weight difference?" 85lbs is a huge difference. I still stand behind what I said about Tohatsu being a fine engine - but that much difference...

    Anchor size for 272 sailfish

Old post resurrected by a brand new member's first post :) Yeah, the jury is still out (in my mind) about Ruby. Most, if not all (just going from memory there), of his/her posts are like the one in #8. They always appear to have no real experience with a product - instead, just re-stating...

Has anyone done a glass front, like what the 330 Express has, on a 228?

I believe you are right that is very similar to CC windscreens, but obviously a lot thinner. It is NOT flexible like your existing "clear vinyl" - although it is not super stiff like a sheet of plexiglass. Makrolon is a brand, although possibly the most widely known. They put some type of...

    Oil at foot

Can you clarify regarding what Bill asked? 2 or 4 stroke?

Has anyone done a glass front, like what the 330 Express has, on a 228?

No, not really "fragile" - it depends on how you are qualifying that term. It's excellent stuff and lasts quite a long time. But with something scraping against it, it can get scratches like anything plastic would. If you're talking about trailering with it, it might be best to avoid putting...

That's a good idea - and much more cost effective!

    Cracks Appearing in Hull

Not that I've ever seen. The coring, itself, isn't structural and doesn't need scarfing (or similar). A simple end butt is all that's needed - and even that doesn't have to be perfect. It's the separation of the two layers of glass that is key. The core's main purpose is simply to keep the...

Has anyone done a glass front, like what the 330 Express has, on a 228?

Lucky, when you say "bar at the top of the windscreen", I think you are referring to the top of the windshield frame? Meaning, even the best "clear vinyl" isn't going to help? I'm not personally aware of anyone that has done it - but I do know it's going to be expensive! I hate to say this...

    Cracks Appearing in Hull

Zooming in on the picture, those cracks look a whole lot deeper than gelcoat stress cracks (which are primarily cosmetic). This appears (from the picture, anyways) to be more structural. But again, I only have one picture to base this on. I would, however, recommend having a qualified...

    Freedom 285 Accessory Swich

What kind of switches do you have? If they're rocker switches, yes - you can probably wiggle it out without breaking the retainers on the back side. Toggles/etc, then no. However, the wiring is usually kind of tight. Is your panel just screwed on? Just remove the panel - it's easier.

    How I miss Radio Shack

No, I was just making a joke. I picked the "30's" at random to make a joke about your age :)

    How I miss Radio Shack

I read old stories about that being all the rage back in the 30's. Must have been pretty cool that you got to see it before it was made available to the public ;)

Composit Teak Decking Inquiry & Props to GW Performance Welding.....

In regards to faux teak, what type of material are you thinking of? EVA like Seadek... maybe PVC like Plasdeck? How durable do you want it to be... will you be rough on it (fishing hooks, blood, etc)? Are you doing the templating and install?

    How I miss Radio Shack

Yeah, sometimes we "think" we're doing the best job possible at the time, not taking into account the future. Been there, done that. Side note: Actually, soldering isn't always the best. Unless it's physically supported on either side of the solder joint, the "regulating" forces of boat...

Can 1999 272 sailfish handle pair of f250 30" shaft

I don't have the definitive answer for your specific boat, but... in addition to the "rule" you stated about the anti-ventilation plate (cavitation is a completely different thing) should also be set 1" higher for every 1' they sit back from the transom. I'm not sure how they sit on your...

    How I miss Radio Shack

100% agree! Although I question how they stayed in business as long as they did when I was only buying 79 cents of connectors at a time ;) Near the end, I think the writing was on the wall when you would ask an employee (who was now 19 years old instead of 49) where the diodes or resistors...

    Carrying a Dinghy

Agree. About the only way I can think of to carry a rigid inflatable is to pull it up over the side of the boat and lay it across from one gunwale to the other, but flip it upside down to make securing easier.

    Good Electrical Lesson Learned

Harry, did you read my post #8? Think of it this way... fill one cup all the way up and another only half way. Set them next to each other and poke a hole near the bottom of each cup and connect the holes with a hose. What happens to the "full" cup?
