Do you fill the tanks for the winter?

Water will bind with the alchol and cause the combo to drop to the bottom of the tank. But stabilizer (Startron, for example) will not cause that. Startron will, however, bind with the water and pull it out of the fuel and, to an extent, disentegrate it enough to where it will pass through the...

Do you fill the tanks for the winter?

Generally speaking (especially with aluminum tanks), you either want them full or empty - nowhere in between. Since emptying a tank isn't always the most convenient thing to do, that leaves filling them as the option. With stabilizer added, the gas will be TOTALLY fine. Heck, it will be...

    Removing and re-applying hull-side "GRADY-WHITE" name plates

That isn't "ghosting". Ghosting is the difference in color between the hull and the area UNDERNEATH the removed leterring/striping. You/he could sand up to the lettering and around though and probably do a pretty decent job and even get somewhat in between the lettering. You wouldn't need to...

    Storage idea

Joe, do YOU think it's a good idea? It doesn't really matter what we think. If you do, go for it.

    How To Winterize AC System?

If you need to, add tape to the hose till it fits snugly into the hole in the side of the hull.

Slow day at work, brainstorming. Fresh water systems, plumbing, adding fresh water washdown.

Chessie, I realize this post is from May. Are you still in the planning stages, here? What is your end game... what do you want to use the fresh water for?

    How To Winterize AC System?

Yes. That's why you'll see it come out of the thru hull on the bottom of the boat ;) The A/C is basically just one long tube. Both ways work equally well.

    How To Winterize AC System?

Another option... Get a cheap hand pump and put one end in a jug of antifreeze and the other end... jamb it into the A/C thru hull exit fitting on the side of the boat. With the seacock open, pump antifreeze in till you see it come out the pickup on the bottom of the boat.

    330 Express Windlass Breaker Question

Most breakers have information somewhere on the body that lists make, model number and breaker size. Do these not have that sticker?

Can I trailer a shrink wrapped boat?

If the shop is wrapping it, they know it will be trailered and the normal way to do it will be to tilt the motor up before wrapping over it.

    29 Cheasapeake

No idea on what year you have, but look at the wiring diagrams in your owners manual (or download it from GW's site). That should detail what each switch is and you can ID based on wire coloring,

Bimini 306 forward fiberglass center insert

How long have you waited for a response? Dealerships are behind on being able to respond to emails on a timely basis because of increased demand and lack of employees. Maybe try calling directly. I don't know what a "forward fiberglass insert" is, but if it's something that Grady made in...

Can I trailer a shrink wrapped boat?

The boats that come from Sea Ray (regardless of which dealer they go to), by the way, have a special, felt lined, heavy duty shrink wrap and they are shrink wrapped "low" (different than regular shrink wrapping). It's a special, reusable shipping cover. It's actually a pretty nice cover! As...

    Cowl painting

Since you have the engines covered with your boat cover, there's no worry about weather. I would spray them down with something like Boaeshield T9, though. Depending on where the boat is, I would be more worried about mice getting at the wires. You could have the powerhead shrink-wrapped and...

    Cover advice needed

Those are typically two different styles of covers because of the way it tightens down. On the trailer, you can use straps to the trailer. But obviously you can't do that when in the water. So things have to be done a little different. Most go with a cockpit cover around the glass and the...

    Splash Well Drains.

Any brand will work. But for your first go around, get the West System (NOTHING to do with West Marine, by the way... other than they may carry it). It's a nearly fool-proof system. Check out their website - they have extensive how-to's.

    Splash Well Drains.

Best practice is to first seal the exposed plywood with epoxy or poly resin. "Freshen" the wood, though, by sanding it or re-drilling. Let it soak in and put more on. Do that 3 or 4 times. This GREATLY lessens the chance of water soaking into the core should it get past the sealant. I would...

    Splash Well Drains.

If you get the brass ones, don't forget you'll need the flaring tool, too. Personally, I just went with the plastic ones. "Some years" down the road I'll notice they're getting brittle and replace them... which is easier than the brass ones. Check out TH Marine, as well - excellent company.

    Proper sealants?

Don't discount the 3M stuff, though. They have excellent products. One of things I specifically like about the Boat Life stuff is they actually cure perfectly well in the presence of water. In fact, misting them with water will cause them to cure faster! :)
