    Adding a

+1 stainless through bolts with good washers. Can use a backing plate and use good sealant (3m 4000, lifeseal, butyl tape, etc). When you drill the holes, drill a pilot hole, then up to exact bolt size, then countersink with a larger drill bit to prevent gel coat cracking and provide a good...

    Loosing motivation

There is a YouTube channel for ‘Making it Metan’ and I think it’s getting a tv pilot. They refurb whalers in MA - some pretty interesting content. Did a full overhaul of a ‘79 formula recently https://youtube.com/user/metanmarine

    Not my day, lower unit

If you didn’t knock off a piece of the skeg or damage the prop, it’ll be fine. You’ll want to smooth it out and paint it. There’s a CA guy in Galt that posts ads for this service on Craigslist Outboard Skeg Repair https://sacramento.craigslist.org/bpo/d/galt-outboard-skeg-repair/7349805724.html

Walmart would be cheaper than west marine for a gas tank. Probably only need 3 gal rather than 6.

    Loosing motivation

You can handle it! Once you knock off each of those issues you will feel great about it! You don’t have to do it all at once, just make some consistent progress and do your research so you fix em right the first time

Could drill a couple exploratory holes and refill with epoxy once you see the extent of the issue.

Bungee a net from an army navy store to the dock. Cut to size. They won’t like the flapping net in the wind around their feet.

    1992 Tournament 225

    1) yes could definitely be an issue, worth inspecting closely. There would be some signs, cracks, bulging, etc inside or outside on the transom. Look for any obvious prior owner patches or half-ass fixes 2) yes typically a 20 year life is maxing. its almost at 30 if original. There may be a...

It’s good feedback for GW. There should be a better design for that. Can tell it’s distracting.

Stupid thread but here it is

Lucky - I bet you know more about boating than many of the boaters on the water. No need to consider yourself a newb. I’m in San Diego this weekend and the rental boats are so obvious to spot even from shore.

Grady hit by whale in Rhode Island

I’ve seen many videos recently of small whale watch boats getting WAY too close to orcas, humpbacks, blue whales, etc. I understand the fascination but it doesn’t seem to me that these people have any regard for the animals themselves or the safety of their patrons. I’m not saying this was the...

What is this and how serious is it?

Sounds like a lot of work ahead. At that price, I’d probably want most of those things working. Make sure you have good insurance coverage on the boat and trailer before transport. the crack looks like interior transom but would make me definitely want to investigate that further. Does it have...

    Sailfish 282 Repower to Single?

Part of the appeal of twins is you likely wouldn’t have to push rpms on the twins nearly as hard as the rpms on a single 400. So a single 400 might get more wear and tear than twins in theory.

    Grady192 or Scout 202

You would not have trouble selling your current boat. If it’s a family friend, once you buy the Scout they will ask periodically about it so you probably can’t buy it and unload it later if you prefer the GW. But I don’t think you’d lose money if the Scout is a good deal should you sell it later.

Handrails and Rust...... How to address

Use a piece of coat hanger wire (or a long nail) to stick into the end of the cartridge and it helps to get some longer life too. Wrap in plastic cling from the kitchen
