Replacing thru hulls, removing bottom paint, temporary fixing a wet transom..... making progress.......

It certainly can be a labor of love (and pain!) keeping these oldies-but-goodies in good shape! That looks like pretty good impact damage in pic #542. Be sure to get back to good, solid glass. With the aggressive sanding, also make sure to do a proper epoxy barrier coat. Good luck! And have...

I need new Batteries for my 228

What "kind" of batteries are they currently? Starting, DC, DP? How do you use your boat/batteries (with/without engine running)? That will determine what type of battery to get. The good thing is that for a "starting" battery, it doesn't take much juice to start that engine. Check your...

    Steering and trim tab fluid

Tabs use ATF... any old ATF will do. Steering systems are pickier. If you need to add fluid to the Bennett - sure, you can use Sea Star - but not other way around. However, if either is losing fluid - there is a leak.

    Swim Platform Washer Setup

"Marine" = +$. :) Sometimes you can get the same stuff without the word "marine" in the description. AND... if the word "marine" is preceeded by the word "West"... figure that you're paying double right off the bat! ;) Yes, the idea is to make the ladder bolt "just tight enough to...

    Swim Platform Washer Setup

I don't have a picture, Doc (although I know what you mean about losing that "ability"!), but the nylon washers always go between the tube and the bracket. If you have the length in the stud, you could add a nylon washer between the head/cap nut and SS washer, as well (meaning, 4 nylons in...

    Rear view mirror

Install it on the underside of the electronics box - mirrors are adjustable for angle. Shim if you have to. Check out CIPA's website - they're probably the biggest player (overall, anyways) in this market. Look at ski/wakeboard boats - they have options for mirros that clamp onto tubing...

Drain plugs in rear deck scuppers?

OK, now the link works - for some reason it didn't, before. I was still the under the impression that you had external scupper valves, not internal like I see now. So... you're saying the external head of the SS scupper tube (the "mushroom") is larger in OD than the SeaWorthy (SW) is in ID...

Drain plugs in rear deck scuppers?

Lucky, look at the first link that Mustang provided (this is the one I was referring to): https://www.seaworthyinnovations.com/scupper1 Remove your existing scupper and replace with this one. You're not messing with any hoses.

Drain plugs in rear deck scuppers?

Lucky Duck... it sounds like the 1-1/2" you are referencing is the diameter... not the length. I only looked quickly at those Seaworthy things, but it looks like they're just like a typical scupper where they install OVER top of the drain tube.

console specs 1999 232 grade white gulf stream

Just a suggestion... on a "critical" measurement like this, it's probably best if you do the measuring. Put a zipper or door in the shrink wrap and you can get in and out. Nothing against anyone that may have the same setup and measure for you - but if, by accident, they're off by just a bit -...

    Low Torque Specs

Guess I'm right behind you. A little light wire brushing, verify the gap, and I put 'em right back in. I'll change them when they actually get worn, though.

    Low Torque Specs

Gotcha. Yeah, I think your best bet then is with the 1/4", given the torque spec is so small. Be sure to calibrate it - which should be done every so often, anyways. I do it with a simple suitcase weight scale at a 1' mark on the handle. I'm sure there's youtube videos that can give more...

    Low Torque Specs

A 1/4" wrench should do it. BUT... I have changed a loh-ha-LOT of plugs - probably more than most because I work in the industry. I have NEVER used a torque wrench on plugs. It's too easy to do it "by feel" to warrant the wrench. Just a thought.

In need of a casting platfom for 08 273 chase

Hooker, I've found the easiest way to make a super-accurate template is to first use cardboard. Then transfer that to a sheet of 1/2" foamboard insulation (the pink or purple stuff from Home Depot). The foamboard is cheap and easy to fine tune. Once you have that the way you want it, make the...

Looking for Bow Cushions & for AFT JUMP SEAT BACK REST cushions

Trying to find someone that wants to sell theirs' is going to be a long shot, FYI. And that's IF they even had them to start with. Your best bet is to just have them made locally. This is an easy thing for any halfway decent upholsterer. EDIT: Just saw that this is an old post and someone...

Amber indicator lights or toggle switch ‘87 seafarer

It certainly can't hurt to measure, but I'm pretty sure these are standard. If memory serves, I think it's a 3/16" hole - but check brands such as Blue Seas or even SeaDog.

Call Bennett directly. You may want to have a picture of your remaining ram and tab to share.

    Cockpit sole hatch

Go for it! It's just a hole in a floor. A hole is a hole is a hole. Seal the floor core and don't cut a square corner (use at least a 1/2" drill bit for the corners). Make sure to get a hatch that can be walked on. Check out TH Marine's website - they're not "high end", but they're good...

Drain plugs in rear deck scuppers?

The one boat that I used them on... they "replace" the existing scuppers (black flap) and just fit over the hole in the hull. It's been a while - but I seem to remember that's all you really have to do. Obviously, seal any penetrations into the transom core.

Drain plugs in rear deck scuppers?

FYI, this isn't a "Grady" problem - this would affect any boat that has excess weight in the stern. It's just physics! The ping pong ball scuppers do work well - but you have to watch if they get tangled/clogged with weeds. Same thing here - doesn't matter what "brand" boat they are on. I...
