Seeking bracket photos (inside and detached)

Disregard my comment about the inspection plate - your initial post said you were curious about inspection plates but also that you siphoned water out. Which means you must have an inspection plate somewhere - which you can more easily look inside than the drain plug? But, yes, that drain plug...

Seeking bracket photos (inside and detached)

Brackets are hollow on the frontside - at least all of the ones I've ever seen. Yes, they typically have an inspection port on the topside which could be hidden by your platform. You might consider adding a slightly larger inspection port on the platform. However, as mentioned, remove the...

In addition to the what Seasick wrote (good questions to help get better a better explanation/description)... does the head hold water? Does the gypsy have a manual locking pin/lever?

In need of a casting platfom for 08 273 chase

Looks to me like that's going to be something Grady made in house which means your local dealer is your source. Other than that, just keep googling or checking ebay to see if someone is selling one they aren't using. BUT... that would be SUPER easy to make if you're even just half-way handy...

    1990 Grady 228g feels slow

Trimming the boat properly should show a BIG difference in speed and performance. Either you're not doing it as well as can be done and/or the water in the bracket is the issue. However, we're back to a another variable as you mentioned "a ton of water" came out - that's too subjective. Fix...

    Breakaway Anchor

Hookup, have you thought about using a trip line, instead? It's a small line tied to that hole that then goes straight up to a small float. If the anchor gets stuck, you pick up the float and pull the anchor out backwards.

    Bilge Pump Replacement

Believe me, I know what you mean about tight spaces. I work in the marine industry. Looking at your pics... it appears that if you pop the gas spring off it will allow the hatch to opern further, giving you some more room. Then, I "think" you can lay across the opening (feet towards the stbd...

    Bilge Pump Replacement

Oh... wanted to add, as I looked at the pictures closer... it appears that the handles of the seacocks haven't been touched in some time. That is a mistake. You should be "exercising" the seacock handles once a month to keep them working. If a hose bursts, and you can't close the seacock...

    Bilge Pump Replacement

You must be able to reach that seacock handle? If you can reach that, it seems you could reach the pump? Even if it's just with one hand and you end up doing it by feel. Hard to say without better pics, though.

    1990 Grady 228g feels slow

Is that 32MPH GPS speed or gauge speed? Above, the question of bottom growth was asked, but not answered. Are you properly trimming the engine? What diameter and pitch prop is on there? There are a multitude of reasons why a boat doesn't reach it's normal top speed. From hull issues to...

    300 Marlin Rode

As long as you've got the rope "free" - give it a good wash and then soak in fabric softener/water. EDIT: Holy crap, I had some grammatical mistakes... even forgot a word or two!

    Proper order for repairs.

Absolutely nothing wrong with doing it the way you choose. I think that as long as someone knows all the facts then they can make the choice that works best for them. With that in mind, just be aware that 5200 sticks stronger to the gel than the gel does to glass. This means that hammering...

    1987 GW Offshore 24 (242GS): 200 HP 4-stroke OB too small?

I think it depends on what you want to do with the boat. I have the same boat w/bracket and a 250HP and it absolutely rips out of the hole. I have no doubt for "general" all around boating that a 200HP would do decent. If you're going to have a good load in the boat most of the time or will...

    Breakaway Anchor

I have no personal experience with it, but I've read about it/heard about it for years. I would imagine you'd need to replace the zip ties every so often as "maintenance"? I don't know if I could handle that maintenance cost, though... :) Pulpit... spray the thing with some slightly off-white...

    Anchor rode

It sounds like you're asking if the shackle from the chain to anchor can go through the gypsy - but I think you're talking about the chain to rope connection, right? Assuming that's what you're talking about, you will do a chain to rope splice - or have it done for you. Ideally, it should be a...

    Proper order for repairs.

Yeah, parts add up fast! One thing I would suggest... 5200 is like super glue. It's absolutely not needed for this application and it DOES NOT seal any better than something like LifeCaulk or 3M4200. All it does is make it harder to remove in the future should there be a need (or by a future...

    Proper order for repairs.

It won't matter as long as you allow the proper time for the paint to cure. I don't think I'd take the extra time to paint around, though. All thru-hull fittings are held in place, primarily, through mechanical needs. You're not "bonding" anything. You'll use a good quality sealant to...
