When I saw your picture, I thought about a threaded coupling on top of the pickup, and just screwing the macerator into it. It really would eliminate a lot of fittings. From the pic, I couldn't tell if the bulkhead in the background was overhanging the pickup.

You can buy a clamshell that turns a regular thru hull into a scoop. Mount it backwards over the thru hull drain on the hull side. Be ready for the questions it will bring.

I can answer the first part. If you zoom in, you can see that there is an identical hose barb on the left end of the tube. What it does is beyond my pay grade. This engine has a whole external network of these little tubes, some have a blue stripe, and some have a red stripe.
