Salt water washdown and fresh water tank

The freshwater tank is likely made out of polyethylene and it takes a lot to break that thing. I would think the tank itself is fine and if there are any leaks, it is with the hose connections to it more than likely. My tank on my 228 is mounted aft of the gas tank. Are you certian the...

    Why Grady?

Back in 1989 or so, my brother moved to Wilmington, NC and owned a Renken bow rider made in SC, I do believe and he wanted a more coastal boat. He found an odd looking 190 Grady White. At first glance I saw this boat it had peculiar lines to it. We then took her offshore to a wreck in about 90...

    Grady color change

You did an awesome job! I am not a fan of dark boats myself, but it is cool looking. I think it is so ingrained in me that a Grady White is supposed to be cream color that initially it is color shock (lol). I saw a pale yellow Grady in the Keys, an Express 330 on Key Largo Dry Rocks and it was...

    ICOM 504 reception issues

When I first discovered the reception problem I looked toward the antenna and that is when I discovered it turning in the ferril. So I replaced it with a brand new one under warranty. Still no reception, but I could transmit. I will call ICOM today and ask about the filter issue. I bought the...

    4 blade prop?

Bigfoot,From what I read before I bought the prop and I talked to the guys at Power Tech, I can only assume yes. You lose some top end performance. I lost like 1 mph, but I gained .10 to .20 better mpg depending on seas and wind of course, I gained better following seas performance, better...

For something to burn or combust you need, fuel, heat and oxygen. Fuel and oxygen are technically two components even though they are mixed inside the combustion chamber as one.

    ICOM 504 reception issues

I think you are right. My handheld is a SH. My dad is/was a ham radio operator and has several ICOM rigs, some Yeasu (Standard Vertex) and Kenwood...all have been reliable ham equipment. Icom and Standard make good stuff. I am intrigued with the AIS stuff for sure.

Look what I am bringing home!

Congrats and sweet ride! My unsolicited advice in making this boat handling a bit better is this. Get a 4 blade stainless prop for that 250 and the 228 will get better hole shot, better stern lift, better maintaining tight turns and holding speed in those turns. This is particularly true if you...

    ICOM 504 reception issues

Greetings: While on our adventures in the Florida Keys I noticed I could not recieve any weather broadcasts. I actually thought maybe this was a ploy of the sequestor to make me feel that pain. I was cleaning my boat and noticed the antenna was turning in the ferril. It is a Shakespear 8900...

Seasick, So what color is your boat? just wondering, I could not help it brother. LOL. Hey man, it is all good. I agree with you and I disagree with you at the same. Say what you will about the forum, not everyone is an old salt and frankly if they are new to boating and get starboard and...

Trailer choices ( old question I guess )

Fish, His name is Rick Williams. When he was an engineer for Corning down Wilmington way he introduced me to Grady White boats when he bought a 190. He is an avid mountain biker and rides bikes from time to time with Burt from customer care at Grady.

Trailer choices ( old question I guess )

Congrats on the boat. I trailer a lot, as in several trips a year to and from Fla and NC. Plus rregionally around NC, SC, GA, and TN, here is the deal. You will want brakes on ALL the axles. Towing is easy, stopping is the critical part. I just bought a new trailer from Seels in Charleston. It...

    The Saga of the Trailer

Hey Guys: I have had a week from trailer hell to be nice about it. About 3 or 4 weeks ago I took my Magic Trail alu - min - e - um trailer to my local trailer guy to repack bearings. Now mind you I live in rural western NC in the Smoky Mountains so we do not have like a thousand boat dealer and...

    330 express forward bilge

I use sump pumps to drain my rental cabin hot tubs, but I think those are too big to fit into the pie plate access hole. I would look at perhaps buying a small pond pump if you are using 120 VAC shore power and pumping it to the deck. They can move a fair amount of water and tolerate some head...

    Kodiak Brakes vs Tie Down

wrxhoon, My trailer is made by Magic Trail and they hung crappy disc brakes on it. In 4 years and I bought it new, it has seen sea water maybe 16 times and I rinse the wheels each time. In the first year the actuator and calipers seized and the brake guys replaced the parts only. Magic Trail did...

New LED lights in my cockpit...what do you think?

Zimm, I found the 12 inch in the helm area and the 24 inches under the gunwale is about all you need. Your boat is going to be the red light district (lol) if you mount all 32 feet of that stuff on the boat. I wanted to go red but the admiral wanted blue. Admiral wins. Since you are a pilot you...

    228 Freshwater Washdown Install

The tank fits nicely behind the gas tank in the smaller compartment area in the bilge. This is accessed from the square deck hatch with the all those screws. You will need GE silicone II almond caulk to replace the seal on the lid. Good luck. We primarily use the freshwater when we swim and...

    Kodiak Brakes vs Tie Down

Grady 23, yeah I contemplated doing it myself as I have done my cars brakes before. It cant be that hard. I own a couple of stores here in the Smokies and we are getting busy and I need to do 100 other things to before I depart, so I am paying to have it done. We are doing the whole thing. The...

New LED lights in my cockpit...what do you think?

Nice job. I bought these water proof diamond bright LEDs from Autozone for $30 a piece, mounted them but they are too bright. Took my kids night fishing on the lake and it was not easy on the eyes. I moved them to a different position on under the gunwale to cast light down the panel along the...

    Oh No! Another New Guy!

Welcome to the forum and sorry about your losses. I am a native Floridian and experienced a hurricane or two in my short time on the planet. While the nation forgets due to the 24 hour news cycle, it takes a long time to recover. I recall many homes a year after the storm hit still repairing...
