2003 Grady White Express 33 with Suzuki 350 duoprop

With the motors trimmed straight up and down, go for a run and at different speeds make more and more aggressive turns to both sides. As the turn get more aggressive the hull will lean to one side. When that happens, at some point the engine opposite to the turn may start to ventilate. You...

    Hull / Gelcoat Damage?

Might be osmosis blisters and if it is, it is close to the worst I've seen. Apparently the blisters burst. If not, whatever it is is extensive and indicates serious fiberglass issues. Worth fixing? probably not especially if you are going to have it done professionally. Do it yourself? Its a big...

How To Remove Gas End of Season

Interesting but be aware that the connector and the switch shown are not ignition protected. In other words, do not use in the presence of gasoline vapors

Dead Battery, Replaced but no power to engine - Figured it Out on Sunday

Many moons ago, I did the same thing on my new to me 208. The funny thing was that the starter gear would turn, just slowly. It didn't turn fast enough to thrust the Bendix gear outward to engage the flywheel. It took a while to find the problem. The good news was that the second time I made the...

Fix rubber strip on my 228

If they are shrunk and pulling away, even if you glue, they will pull away again unless you remove the whole length and reposition. The piece will be shorter and will have a space somewhere. I chose to have the space under the combing bolster where the gap doesn't show. If they are lust loose...

    Alarm on Yamaha F150

What are you going to do after siphoning? If you will store for the winter, that's OK. If you were planning on added fresh fuel and seeing what happens, that's OK too. Don't add too much, say 5 gallons tops since in the spring you may have a tank full of watered down gas to get rid of.

    Alarm on Yamaha F150

I recommended doing the fuel lines since you had the deck open. The lines themselves can leak but after you said the tank was 'full' of water you should inspect the tank for leaks. Mi sometimes foggy brain makes me think that if the tank were leaking on the bottom and taking water into tank when...

What is the 226/228 True Length for Slip Fees?

Just curious: At that marina, is a 30 foot slip actually 30 feet long . I am not sure what that means. I have seen marinas where all the slips were the same length and many boats just extended past the end. I have seen slips where the pulpit extended over the main dock. It's frowned on but if...

    Fresh water tank

The user manual for 1984 Offshore 24 doesn't show a fresh water tank. Nor does it show a second gas tank. The brochure lists a 55 gallon aux tank as an option. If you have a secong fuel tank, I would expect the two fills to be near each other but it it simple to check. Pull the deck plates and...

Dead Battery, Replaced but no power to engine - Figured it Out on Sunday

The positive battery cable attaches to the starter solenoid/relay. I also just noticed that in the second drawing for the battery select switch, there is no cable shown for the negative wire to the engine. The negative jumper between batteries is shown though and that cable is often left off...

    Cockpit heat ideas 208 Adventure

The good heaters don't exhaust and combustion gases into the cabin. In addition they get fresh air for combustion from the outside ( there are fittings that go through the hull) A CO detector is a must and when properly installed I wouldn't be worried. Note that the exhaust gases even though...

    Alarm on Yamaha F150

Caution. Water does not flow better through the flush port! Use muffs. Also take a look at the o-rings on your fuel fill fittings. That is the number 1 cause of water in the tank if it rains heavily where the boat is located. Remember that the water in the tank may have accumulated over a long...

    Cockpit heat ideas 208 Adventure

Those heaters are very good. Note that they are exhausted to the outside. The 208 does not have a lot of space under the deck and installation can be tricky. Take a look at one maual to see what is involved...

    Alarm on Yamaha F150

First things first. Use the primer bulb and keep squeezing until it gets firm. I takes a lot of squeezing to refill the VST tank. In the process you will be refilling the on the motor gas filter and the 'in the bilge' water separating filter. That big filter if empty will add a lot of extra...

Dead Battery, Replaced but no power to engine - Figured it Out on Sunday

You need to check if you have juice at the motor itself. The heavy ground wire connection is as important as the 12 volt cable. If you attached your booster pack to the old battery and was able to operate the tilt, the ground is probably good. When you say there wasn't enough juice to 'turn...
