    BoatUS april seaworthy article

Replaced all my thruhulls in 2012 just after I purchased the boat. I had 3 of the original plastic one's that were cracked. Not good! I went all SS, since I trailer, but it is worth replacing with either bronzed or SS! Then don't have to worry so much with age down the road with plastic again...

    Rigging hose replacement!

Good choice. I know it is a bit of a pain to do, but will lasts many years with newer parts. The boot part that is on the motor side is a newer version from the original and is hard plastic and seems to be much better engineered to withstand the stress from the hose. 2nd year and no signs of...

    Rigging hose replacement!

Moxsea, I purchased new hoses and fittings for Yamaha engine to hose and new fittings on transom. The new ones on the transom were larger so I had to resize the holes. Andy at Sim convinced me to get the blue one's and it was the right choice. Not only do they look better, the don't get as hot...

2 pumps from the one sea cock inlet?

Update: I splashed the boat in the local lake for first test of season. Also first time I have put this boat on a freshwater lake. Nice! The pumps worked flawlessly. The Pro Blaster washdown pump was much stronger than the livewell pump for washdown purposes, this is great! I was able to run...

    Installing Electronics On 209

I would check with Garmins' mounting requirements for radome. My Lowrance 3G mounted flush to hardtop and works perfectly. I first had it mounted on a pedestal, but had a height issue under bridges, so had to lower it. I found lots of boats with flush mounted radomes, so can't see it being a...

    HPDI Auxiliary charging lead

AC Delco Voyagers of that era were amazing. I had 3 total and one went with the old boat when I sold it a couple of years ago. Battery was still strong in that one. The other secondary one I had I just used around the shop and it finally started to dwindle down and I just used it as a core to...

5 coats of bottom paint and it's not budging

When I did the sanding, I figured that I was really getting thin on the gelcoat layer, so that is another reason I chose to rebuild the thickness for protection. However, if you want to just touch up some spots, the Preval works great. Just spray out the spots and then after cure, sand smooth...

    HPDI Auxiliary charging lead

Glad you found that info Firemanbob, using parallel batteries is a normal practice. As stated, they should be same type chemistry. Think of it as comparing an 8D battery, which has the capacity of 2 group 27's I think or close to it, but with ability to lift the weight and put in smaller places...

5 coats of bottom paint and it's not budging

Some DA's will lock and use like a grinder and remove material very fast. Have to be careful. I used DA orbital air sander on mine which was very thick and cratered. Started off with 24 grit which removed it pretty quickly. Worked it until I could begin to see through it, then moved to 80 grit...

    Transom bracket bullet proof???

To do a check, drill some 1/8" holes from inside, but not go through outside skin and the drill bit will show if clean or wet wood. Also, if water pours out, not a good thing, but what you are looking for is dark wet wood which is a sure sign of potential rot or softening/weakening. You can fill...

Anyone have any luck ordering original canvas?

Understand....and feel your pain......I have this problem nearly everywhere I call nowadays. Multiple emails, etc. But usually keep trying on the phone every hour and eventually someone answers. Go figure. I bet it if was my business and I did not answer, I would not last long. I guess it is...

Anyone have any luck ordering original canvas?

Fishbust, as mentioned A&J lost their patterns due to the floods that came through there years ago from the hurricanes. After being in their facility, they showed me the line on the wall and it was over top of their tables that held the patterns. Everything was ruined, thus why they wanted my...

    HPDI Auxiliary charging lead

Agree Doc, but really only choice I had. I don't have room for 4th switch, and wanted more reserve on house. Putting 2 in parallel is like having one large house 8D battery. I test mine very often (OCD) since I am wired that way... If they fail, I have the starting batteries to run...

    HPDI Auxiliary charging lead

I purchased the aux. cables from Sim Yamaha and it was recommended to run one from each engine to the house battery so that if either motor was off, the battery was still getting a charge. I since have put a second house battery in now so have 4. I tied both house batteries together and run one...

Ring Free vs Ring Free PLUS?

I found this information that guided me to buy a case from Sim Yamaha of the Ring Free Plus. Was struggling to get to a place to purchase the Ring Free when down at the coast and prices were high. This makes it easy. A case is now stored in my garage and don't have to spend valuable time trying...

    Grady's affected by Compolysis?

Nice joke, but not april yet and I will not re-subscribe as I did not like this joke! Made me think my boat was disintegrating! Why am I paying for this stuff taking up valuable space in what should be an informative boating magazine?

Anyone have any luck ordering original canvas?

I took mine to A&J a couple years ago and they did a great job with new curtains. They are busy, best to give them a call and discuss as they kept my old curtains for a pattern since they lost most of their patterns due to floods some years back. Friendly folks for sure!

Seafarer 228G water acummulation, front bilge area

When I got mine, I was curious as to why I had water in front also. I pulled hatch and ran water hose in to put more volume there and then I found it was trickling to the back bilge. Of course I had her cranked up pretty high. I put hose pressure and it cleared some clogs that must have...

Looking for material to replace your dash panels?

I was toying around with using a laminate that simluates teak or any other look you want. Easy stuff to work with. Just cut a little oversize, glue up and then use trim router to flush cut. They have UV laminates out there as well. Just hard to do in small trim pieces, but for a panel that is...
