Replacing the motor's trim tab question

I thought it functioned like a tiny "engine rudder" to counter the torque of the prop spinning? I guess rudders do create drag in one direction like paddling and steering a kayak....I never thought of it in those terms....thanks for clarifying this...learn something new every day here..

    Need Advice on Seafarer

Wait a minute. My 228 G has a an F250. I dont know the wieght off my the top of my head, but I would think it is heavier than a 2 stroke. I think the best to do is have it surveyed if you want the boat.

Replacing the motor's trim tab question

Hey yall: I lost my trim tab in the Keys and suspect when they rebuilt my motor or when I did the 20 hour power head service it was loosened and it just rattled off. I got my boat back tonight after my brake system was replaced on it. I put the new tab on the motor without a problem. I have...

    Considering Tournament 225

POA1, Welcome. I had a 1998 192 and loved the dual console layout and almost bought a 225 and opted for the 228g. I fished my 192 offshore in Central Florida, the Florida Panhandle and the Keys and it was a great boat in seas less than 3 feet with an 8 to 10 second period. The 228 is on the...

    Need Advice on Seafarer

What puzzels me is when I repowered my last boat with a new Yammaha, it came with Yammaha guages and controls. My 192 originally came with OMC/Johnson equipment. Anyway, seems to me if they repowered with a new 06 Suzuki would it not come with new guages too? If so there should be an hour meter...

    Boat

Tiger, Another guy wants to trade straight up for his Prokat with your boat? Just curious who proposed the trade? I find it curious he is willing to go down 2 feet without hesitation to your Grady. Perhaps that is your answer? Why would a guy with a 28 foot Prokat want trade down even with your...

    Engine performance

I had a F150 on my 192 and sold it with about 700 hours on it. I was religious about changing the water pump at 100 hours. When we would run to Silver Glenn springs on the mighty St. Johns sometimes that filamentous green algae and jungle val would clog the intake ports and the overhear alarm...

What a boating season this is and f250 update

I have had a power boat now for 10 years. I would not consider myself an agressive or out of control operator in the very least. 99% of the time my family is aboard and their safety is paramount to me. I do use my boat for water sports and my previous Grady was a water sports machine too. I do...

which engine set up is better

I vote for the bracket. There are several advantages of the the outboard in terms of ease of maintenance, typically better power to weight ratios than i/0s and with newer outboards the fuel economy is often better too. I have never seen a 228 with i/0. I like the deck layout of the 228 with the...

What a boating season this is and f250 update

I am either taking the boat to Columbia or Charleston for a warranty issue. I am not sure how water got into the motor, Yammaha thought through the exhaust. I just found it very interesting that 3 other folks all had the same issue at about the same time I did. pathery, I might look into a new...

    Spreader Light Switch

GulfyG: I replaced the courtesy light switch in that dome light while in the Keys. I went to the Grady dealer down there while I was there and picked it up. The switch was like $15 or so as the courtesy light switch is a three way switch. Perhaps the spreade light switch is a tad cheaper. Either...

    Engine Failure - 2005 Yamaha F250

I am reading this thread late and I gotta say one thing. You ran that boat hard for 200 hours based on your description here and it ran for 200 hours without any lower unit gear oil  Think about the upside of this, that is one tough gear case. I am very sorry for your troubles, but I am...

What a boating season this is and f250 update

I have had a very up and down season it has been for me. The ups, I have been fishing this year, got to meet strikezone and his family, yammaha replaced my motor, spent 2 weeks in the Fla Keys, though fishing for pelagics stunk and last weekend went to Lake Lanier. I will get some pics loaded of...

    228 seafarer questions

I use my 228 for the stated pruposes as you intend to use yours. I have a F250 and it has the torque and power to do the job. I will say this, and I dont know if these are standard, but trim tabs are a must for wake boarding. I really dont like being pulled faster than 19 or 20 and the boat does...

Sick of Rusted Yamaha Oil Tank Trays??

Nice Job! Now that you have a template, I bet folks here would be willing to pay you to make them for their boats.

    228 vs. 226

Fishing wise having the motor closer to the stern has some advantages because sometimes when a fish is on the line it will run from side to side when it is behind the boat. If it is a big fish like the ones I always catch ( working the fish around the motor can be an issue. With that...

    anchor chain

A great question el jefe and the responces equally great. I have realized I perhaps rely or trust the folks at the Grady dealer sometimes too much. I have maybe 10 feet of rode on my 228 with think a #10 danforth.....I honestly don't remember. What is clear yo me is my rode is on the short...
