Looking to outfit 21' walk around ( a 218 Adventure) with electronics

Sticking with garmin, The latest GMR Fantom radars are very good. The make it easy to understand who is coming at you or crossing your heading. If you need Radar, you cannot use one of the Echo models of Chartplotter/FF. You can use a GPSMAP 943xsv or larger in that xx43 line. Or a more...

    Odd Fuel Gauge Issue

without fleshing it out completely, I think it has something to do with a "ground" (more specifially a neg 12V return) possibly the gauges are getting their ground thru the fuel sensor instead of directly to the neg 12V terminal Turning on the key is putting 12V on the sender. if you tie them...

    NJ fishing reports

I was out Monday solo in the crazy fog looking for the first tuna. Skunked... (don't count bluefish...) Trolled a lifey lump in the Separation zone. Nothing. water temp 72 (it was 66 inshore) Ran to the AP aka Atlantic Princess. fog thinned out there. water temp 74. Small fleet wasn't...

    Charger and Shore power

The old charger was hardwired going to a breaker on the AC panel in the cabin. You can cut off the plug on the new charger and crimp but... I just put on a replacement 3 prong AC cord receptacle and plug the charger in. That way I can also use an extension cord in my driveway over the winter.

    265 Express List Discussion

I have run a 2000 265 since 2017. I had OX66s and now Zuke DF200APs. If you search TAGS here for "265 Express" you will find all of my posts relevant to the 265. 2 degrees at the dock seems to be the norm. I don't worry about it. I have so much gear, tackle, and lead sinkers onboard there...

Was I always doing it wrong?

The reference to “ the last striper” means something if you’re in the northeast US. Striper fishing begins in late fall and extends into December. The night air temperatures in November often go below freezing but the water is near 50 F So leaving the motor down in th water for a few weeks...

Was I always doing it wrong?

Nobody is suggesting leaving the motor down in the water all the time. They are talking about for a few minutes when using the flush port after running the boat.

Was I always doing it wrong?

I did that for a while but I snapped off the plastic quick connect(s) from the tension of the hose bending.

Was I always doing it wrong?

When I got my new zukes I read that and started flushing when down. It makes sense since a normal operation the pump pumps, the water to the top of the head and gravity makes it drain down through all of the channels. And when you’re running, the motor is up. So by flushing with the motor up...

    NMEA2K Backbone placement

Haha...the Garmin branded ones are turned 45deg...aggrevating unless all of them are Garmin.... Not familiar with the older Suzuki setup. But... My newer Zuke SMG4 gauges connect to N2k. The N2k power is isolated from the Suzuki side of the backbone. This allows gauges to work on Key even...

    Fuel issue resolved -265 Express

Not saying it isn’t pieces of hose but I'm pretty sure alcohol rated hose has been the norm for 30 years. My deck drain hoses were disintegrated, and the only alcohol they ever saw was a spilled beer.

    Transom maintenance

I was not concerned at all about corrosion. It is a giant 1/4" thick washer. No one ever sees it. It will function as a washer for longer than the motors will last.
