Not a grady question but you guys know a bunch so

I'm thinking really hard about a 32 foot World Cat instead of a Marlin. Fear not, I'll keep my 228 and even if down the road I sell it, I'll hang out here, this is the best boating forum I've been on and I'm on Bloody Decks, Hull Truth, and my local Coastside forum. If you guys let me hang...

    Express 330 with 300s?

How is the hole shot in lumpy conditions? I'm guessing you need a lot of trim tab to pop up?

    Express 330 with 300s?

I'm looking at a 2017 Express 330, the ad says 350s but the dealer says 300s. Two questions: 2017/2018 did Grady offer 350s? If they are 300s, is an express 330 going to be a dog with those?

    How does beam affect ride?

Maybe I should be saying swell when I'm saying waves. If there are wind waves of 7 feet, 5 feet, even 3 feet, yeah, that sucks hard. Swells without wind chop on them are perfectly fine if they are spaced apart far enough. When I say 7'@11s those are always swells. If there is no chop on top...

    How does beam affect ride?

We pretty much always have some swell, frequently with wind chop on top. Once in a while we get the Lake Pacific but that is rare. So you just have to get used to sloppy conditions or you can't fish. When I was out in 7@11 chasing tuna, there wasn't chop on top, so while we call that elevator...

    How does beam affect ride?

If it made any difference it is maybe a 1/2 of a mph difference. I really couldn't tell though what I should do is run the boat, switch the props, run the boat again. It was not some magic fix.

    How does beam affect ride?

It's not so easy finding people that want to drop what they are doing and take you for a ride. I'm trying.

    How does beam affect ride?

Bennett tabs and I changed to a 15" 4 blade prop at the suggestion of Ken at propgods.

    How does beam affect ride?

7@11 is fine unless there is a lot of chop on top of it, I've gone out in that quite a bit chasing tuna. It's when it is X@X, for pretty much any value of X, it gets nasty, that's a steep slope on the swell. 6@9 is doable in the 228 but it is right on the edge of no fun. 5@10 is fine...

    How does beam affect ride?

And I am grateful for the debate. I think I was about to pull the trigger on $350K boat that I would not like. That makes me a rich guy but I'm not so rich where that is noise, that's a really big deal for me. I need to get this right. I'm liking the dual console options, I need to see if...

    How does beam affect ride?

OK, I am learning. Tell me if this is correct: for a fast ride home in slop, I want the most weight and the most narrow boat I can find. I also love the helm of the walk arounds, I don't want a center console, it's cold where I fish. So what about the Freedom 275? It's a little light but it...

    How does beam affect ride?

Aren't those all East Coast boats? I have never heard of any of them out here. And I really would prefer to stay with Grady. I might consider a 271 with canvas wings on it to sort of be like a cabin. I personally don't care about a cabin at all, I do care about that nice warm helm.

    How does beam affect ride?

I fish the Pacific out of Santa Cruz. It's almost always snotty out there. At the end of the day, I'm tired and I want to go home as fast as possible. My biggest complaint with the 228, other than that damn bar right in my line of sight, is that it doesn't stay on plane below about 20mph in...

    How does beam affect ride?

Yes, my buddy Barry has 16 years of running a Triumph. But those are very different, very forgiving hulls. It's hard to convey my level of experience but I've something like 1300 miles on my main engine. When I started, I couldn't predict which swells will launch me, now I get it right about...

    How does beam affect ride?

Well, it's not as bad as when I bought the 228 without having driven it, but it's pretty bad. Just one nice day ride with my buddy. I just assumed that if the ride was great in a 271 then it would be that much better in 300. Perhaps I've made an ass out of u and me. I'm just trying to figure...

    How does beam affect ride?

As you might know, I have a 228. I some rides in a friend's 271 Canyon and that convinced me I wanted a bigger boat, I like the walk around, so Marlin it is. Or so I thought. Another friend and I were out in our boats yesterday, I in a 228, he in a 300 Marlin. Conditions were supposed to be...

    1995 GW 208 Adventure

I don't know if it is unique to me or not, I've only been on my 228. Any other late model 228s want to chime in? I think you might be OK with one guy in the middle of the cockpit but if you put a guy on a crab puller, yeah, wet feet. I don't like it but what can I do?

    1995 GW 208 Adventure

If it makes you feel any better, on my 2020 228 with a 250hp and a 9.9hp kicker, just standing in the back you will get your feet wet. Not the same boat but a data point.

    Where 228’s Come From.

I'm upgrading to a Marlin but while it took me a while, I think the 228 looks awesome on the water. If conditions allow it, the 228 is the best boat. And I say that as some idiot that thought center consoles look better. And they do. In warm weather. The 228 going out of my harbor on the...
