Drain plugs in rear deck scuppers?

I looked at the PVC ones and had two issues (real or imagined): a) They are longer, at least the ones I found were. They had slip or threaded fittings and then you needed to add a hose barb and you run out of room. b) The flapper is rubber or something like it, again, in the ones I saw. I...

Drain plugs in rear deck scuppers?

First try to fix it is at http://mcvoy.com/lm/boat/2022-03-18-18.56.24.jpg Was a little not cool to cut that hose, kinda scared to mess up a grady but it seems fine. Drains great.

Drain plugs in rear deck scuppers?

Well that's a thought as well. Right now I've been putting down moving blankets to try and protect the deck from crab pots, it only sort of works.

Has anyone heard from Glen Weeks?

At Performance Welding? Great guy, done some work for me, I wanted some more and he told me he was gone to a boat show until March 6th. I've been pinging him to get going and no reply which is weird for him, he normally gets back to me. If he is too busy, that's great, go him, but I'm...

    No wood? Not true.

I just replaced one of my rod holders on my 2020 228 and the gunnel is definitely made of fiberglass encased plywood. I thought they had removed all the wood from modern Gradys but I guess I was wrong. Anyone know the details? The wood I saw seemed plain old plywood not even painted where the...

    Keeping cubby door open?

My 228 has two compartments above the helm under the hard top. I've mounted a screen in one of them and I'd like the door to stay open when I'm using it. The stiff hinge works when the boat isn't moving but when I'm pounding over waves, it shuts itself and I can't see the screen. I'm...

Good things that boaters have done for each other?

Give it time. I have faith in this crowd, lots of good people here. The 2 replies were more fun than all the scummy replies put together in my opinion.

Drain plugs in rear deck scuppers?

I know that brass isn't great. My guess is I have 5 years of fishing left, 10 if I'm lucky. I think the brass will be good for the first 5 years. I want the brass because it is a hinged cover, it swings on pins. Which means it swings open easily and swings closed easily and I want both of...

Drain plugs in rear deck scuppers?

Been looking some more. The PVC swing valves are a little funky, they are hinged with rubber, the rubber has to flex to open/close. I don't trust that so I found some brass ones here: https://www.qrfs.com/valves/swing-check-valve-1-1-2-in and I think those plus this...

Good things that boaters have done for each other?

I saw the scummy thread and while I get it, I've seen it, wanted to bring it back to more positive stuff. We'll see if this gets traction. I've done little stuff like seeing a newbie at the dock struggling to get in, all nervous, I'm behind and I shouted out "I was new pretty recently, take...

    Life Vest sale?

The only advice I'd give anyone who listens is pick a life vest and buy as many of those as you need. All the *same*. Don't be me with 3 different kinds, searching for different rearm kits. Get all the same. Don't care which, all the same.

Drain plugs in rear deck scuppers?

Believe me, I've looked. The existing scupper is 1 5 inch unit with a flange and a barb that goes into the hose, the part outside the transom is part of it, it does not come off. So to replace with the Seaworthy makes no sense, it won't work. You need the scupper3 link and then their overall...

Drain plugs in rear deck scuppers?

OK, less tired and back. I'll try and go over what I've learned. The part that is in my boat is an Attwood 66553 according to Grady, it's like this: https://www.amazon.com/Attwood-66553-3-Barbed-Stainless-Scupper/dp/B0000TX760/ and it is around 5 inches long overall so it can stick through the...

Drain plugs in rear deck scuppers?

I'm super tired, not all here. Mustang, we should talk. If your boat is like my boat, the attwood scuppers are a 5.5 inch thing that goes through the hull and has a nut on it that holds it in place. I looked into the Seaworthy Innovation offerings and the one that goes through the hull is...

Drain plugs in rear deck scuppers?

That's exactly right. Just one guy back there is sort of ok, but you get two working on a crab pot or something and it gets pretty wet. I'm gonna try those stainless flappers, they look like they might work. I just need to go measure everything and make sure they fit.

That looks like the best answer, gonna try that. Thanks!

Drain plugs in rear deck scuppers?

So you have to disconnect the hose and shove those new ones in there and reclamp the hose? Or are you talking about the $8 flappers linked on that page?

Drain plugs in rear deck scuppers?

Huh, I can try that. Mine have let water in since day 1 of ownership (new boat). Do you have to replace the whole drain like this implies? https://www.perko.com/catalog/category_products/underwater_hardware-scuppers/ or is there a way to just get new flaps?

Drain plugs in rear deck scuppers?

I know it isn't a Grady problem, I should have been more clear. I was wondering if those ball scuppers are sized right to fit over the Grady exits or if I need to look for a certain size. Copy on the weed issue, seems like I just make it part of my routine of cleaning the outside of the...
