    Trim-tab model 1990 Explorer 24

So I don't know about your explorer, but I know that Grady tends to put tabs on that are smaller than Bennett wants. I had 9x12 and upgraded to 12x18 and they work a lot better. So I wouldn't worry about stock, I'd figure out the biggest ones you can put on there and do that. Don't worry...

    Sending Units

I can vouch for the "clock" thing, they only line up one way. Ask me how I know, well, I'll tell ya, on my first boat, a Triumph, I pulled it and put it back wrong, took my wife out for the *only* time she was willing to get on a boat with me, the bilge filled up with gas. Ouch. Don't be me...

    232 vs 228?

My 228 came with 9x12 trim tabs, which Bennett says are appropriate for a 17-19 foot boat. I upgraded them to 12x18 and it makes a big difference. Doesn't turn my 22 foot boat into a 27 foot boat, but lets me push the bow further down for a better ride. I dunno what it is with Grady and tiny...

    232 vs 228?

Hey Magic Bill and everyone, I think the 228 is the right answer for me (actually, if they still made them _and_ I could get a slip, a 27 foot Sailfish seems like it would be perfect. Sigh. Hey Grady! Us west coast people buy walk arounds, not center consoles. It's cold!) I just upgraded...

    232 vs 228?

I have a 2020 228 and am mostly pretty darned happy with it. I use it to fish. I'm kind of a pussy so at the end of the day, I want to run home as fast and as comfortably as possible. There is a 232 for sale at my dealer, it's about 1500 pounds heavier and 15 inches wider and a foot longer...

What's on your list for winter projects?

Auto pilot. I was going to put in power steering but in the process of tying my kicker to the main engine, I discovered that the nut on top of the bolt that connects the engine tang to the seastar was over tightened. Loosened it and my steering is fine. Looking forward to autopilot.

Tying kicker steering to main Yamaha steering w/ seastar

I looked at a buddy's setup and I was trying to attach the bracket to the wrong part of the seastar system. All good.

Tying kicker steering to main Yamaha steering w/ seastar

For those of you who have done this, how? I know how to do it on the kicker side: I'm making an L shaped bracket and u-bolting that to the sort of yoke at the front of the engine like my buddy did. I don't see how you tie into the Yamaha - I have a modern 250hp. There is a tongue that sticks...

    new grady

It's by no means 50% in my harbor, Santa Cruz, CA, but there are probably dozens in there. Lots 226/228, 232, Marlins, Expresses, Canyons.

I've thought of that as well but I've pretty much solved the problem with some brass flap valves.

Yeah, the 218 makes little sense as a west coast fishing platform. I wish they had addressed the heavier weight of 4 strokes on the 228, you stand in water lots of times. I solved that with some flap valves.

    gulfstream 232

I pull my Seafarer (close but under 7000 pounds w/ trailer and gear) with a Dodge 4wd Ecodiesel (3.0L turbo) and it works fine. My buddy has a Canyon 271 w/ a 3 axle trailer. He pulls it with the Dodge 5.7L diesel and it works great. I'm a chevy guy but agree the gas engine has no guts for...

    new grady

I fish in a buddy's Canyon 271 and I really fail to see why they need that and this. The 271 and 281 seem like they share the same console and leaning post. My buddy's 271 has that big coffin fishbox in the front, the newer 271's are more "family" oriented. I don't get why they need both of...

    new grady

I have a 228 walk around and love it, thought about upgrading to a Marlin, too much boat for me, but if Grady made a new Sailfish in 27 or 28, that would be my boat. I'd keep the 228 for trailering to Fort Bragg or south, the Sailfish would be my in the slip boat.

    2003 marlin repower

Once you have fly by wire you will never want to go back to cables. There is no dead spot in fly by wire, it's super responsive.

    Merry Christmas

Perhaps. If so, it's nice to be a small fish in a big pond of nice fish. I'm not trying to suck up, just shining a light on the fact that this place is special. I'm on a lot of other forums and they are (mostly) kind of crappy. Old salty guys putting down the new guys is pretty typical. All...

Has anyone done a glass front, like what the 330 Express has, on a 228?

I'm committed to my 228. Yeah, it's a smaller boat, but it is big enough for the right days on the ocean. I can trailer it and that is important to me (I'm on a 1.5 mile single lane twisty road, the trailer for the Fisherman 236 was too big for my road). I suspect this is the last boat I'll...
