    Kicker motors

I did not, I got the tiller version. I have the hardware to connect it to the main so when you steer the main, you steer the kicker but I haven't hooked that up. My steering is manual, no pump, and it's a little tough to turn. So far, what I do is steer with the main engine when I'm on the...

    New 228 coming?

That's what a friend of mine said as well. But that loses the swim platform to the euro transom which means the cockpit would be smaller. That doesn't seem like an upgrade to me but I'm not Grady-White, they know what they are doing. I'm just happy I got a 228 while I still could. Once I...

    New 228 coming?

I was at my Grady dealer and they let slip that there might be a 228 replacement coming in the fall. Short on details, they thought it would based on one of the existing hulls, maybe the Freedom 235. It really sounded way too much like a 232 so I don't get it. Anyone have real info?

Drain plugs in rear deck scuppers?

    https://www.qrfs.com/valves/swing-check-valve-1-1-2-in that one I believe.

    What Grady to get?

The setup before I messed with it was double clamps at both ends. That's how it came from Grady.

Paging Magic Bill - trim tabs, you were right

I think it is something that every 228/226 owner should consider. If you go to the Bennett website, the tabs that came on my 228 are sized for 14-17 foot boats. Personally, after experiencing the difference, I'd put the absolute largest tabs on the boat that you can. You can trim them all the...

Drain plugs in rear deck scuppers?

The swing valves have been working for me. Initially they were no better than the rubber flaps but whatever changed, I have no idea, maybe a little salt makes them more likely to stick closed? I dunno but water in the back of the boat is no longer an issue and when I clean the boat water flows...

    What Grady to get?

It's a flap valve not a check valve. Check valves are spring loaded and need a lot of pressure to open up and wouldn't work at all for this job. Flap valves just have a hinged flap so a small amount of water will open them. It works great, no water in the rear of the boat.

Paging Magic Bill - trim tabs, you were right

In my little experience, it depends. If it is 6 feet @ 12 or more seconds, those aren't steep, rides almost like a flat ocean so you can push the bow down just fine. 6@8 or 6@9, oh heck yeah, tabs up, bow up.

    What Grady to get?

Well it was enough of a problem for me that I was usually standing in water in the back. Grady changed nothing, so far as I know, to address the heavier engines and they could have. I fixed the water problem like so:

    What Grady to get?

The 208 is identical to a 228 except no swim platform and the deck is two feet shorter. I looked at a 208, it's too small for me, not enough room there for crab pots. If you are pole fishing, the 208 is fine for 2 people, cramped for 3 but people do it. One advantage of the 208 is the transom...

Paging Magic Bill - trim tabs, you were right

Same hydraulics, I asked the guy who suggested this idea and he said all the rams are the same. They work great in my case. It's a really easy fix to make your ride way better. You just have to find the sweet spot but that's pretty easy with some practice. Careful with them in a following...

Reminder of why Grady has a faithful following

I started the thread about what Grady could do better and there was a lot posted there. Gradys aren't perfect, they can be improved. That said, I love my Grady, I never worry if it will get me home. I rode on a Mako, holy smokes, I would not want to be in a rough ocean on that boat. Gradys...

Paging Magic Bill - trim tabs, you were right

It gets on plane sooner and stays on plane at slower speeds, it didn't take my 22 foot boat and turn it into a Marlin, but it is so much better I'm cured of deadly 2-foot-itus disease. About the only "downside" was that I had to get longer straps and move them forward on the trailer so the...

Paging Magic Bill - trim tabs, you were right

So my 228 came with 9x12 trim tabs. I have a fishing buddy with 25 years of experience who said those are too small. I put 18x12 tabs on my 228. Holy mother f*cking sh*t, it is a different boat. So my 228, I'm on the digital throttle all the time, every swell, back off, get on it, repeat. I...

Forum Members Who Tinker With Penn Reels?

Alan is the reason I've got a Grady, he is local to me, in Saratoga, he told me to come over and see his Grady. I bought my 228 because he told me to. He is also the reason that I have 8 or more Shimano Toriums, he convinced Shimano to change the grease they used and then he said those are 100...

Trying to fix my fuel sender, wiring or Guage

In my case I put it back on wrong so it wasn't tight enough and it sloshed out into the bilge. That was an unpleasant ride home. I like Triumph boats but I hated the one I bought. Much happier with my Grady.

Trying to fix my fuel sender, wiring or Guage

Be warned, that on Triumph boats, at least, the sender bolt pattern is no symmetric, they only go in one way. Ask me how I know (I had a bilge full of gasoline the one time I got my wife in the boat).

    2020 Suzuki 9.9 kicker question

Thanks for all the replies. Oil level is completely full. And while I screwed this up once, I only beat myself up if I make the same mistake again (I won't). All in all, a relatively cheap lesson in how my cooling system works.
