    Repower

I have a modern Yamaha 250, which shares a ton of the engine with the 300. I was in the harbor the other day and someone told me his kid was a marine mechanic and flashed something and got 300 out of the 250. I'm skeptical, I've been told that to get the extra 50 out of the 250 engine, they...

Clean your own boat? Try this.

I'm new-ish to having a nice boat and I started with just hosing it off, that wasn't enough, then I got some cheap home depot brush, that didn't really work, then for a while my goto was a stiff bristle hand brush, that worked but boy, was it a lot of work. Forget all of that. Go to West...

Custom rocket launchers for the hardtop?

OK, Grady's customer service says this about the core: Shared your question and they shared that there is actually no "core" in this top, instead it consists of multiple layers of 2 oz. glass and special RTM resin, these tops are solid all the way through. As a reminder, that's for my 2020...

    228 Repower

Yep, I bought a crappy first boat, fought it for two years, I have a limited horizon for ocean fishing (health problems) and said screw it, let's get a brand new 228. I was in an unusually positive situation financially, so it made sense for me (I get that the new prices make very little sense...

    228 Repower

I have 2020 228 and all the scuppers put water in the boat. That's actually a good thing, it means they drain to the outside, you don't need a pump. My scuppers put water on the boat when we are all standing in one spot.

Custom rocket launchers for the hardtop?

Glen told me to goop the holes with 3M 5200 and I intend to. I sent Gwen another email about the core, she pointed me at customer service. I'll report back when I have an answer.

Custom rocket launchers for the hardtop?

I asked Gwen and she said I'm wrong, it's fiberglass. My bad. So backing plates?

Custom rocket launchers for the hardtop?

My top is metal, I'm assuming aluminum but perhaps steel? Whatever it is, it is more than strong enough for me to stand on. I was thinking fender washers would be enough, Glen wants me to do 3 1/4 inch bolts per tab, seems a little excessive but he is the guy with experience so I'm doing what...

    High Pitched Alarm Marlin 280

The other thing I have on my Garmin 8610 is shaded relief on the bottom charts. This is a game changer in our Pacific waters. Somewhere in http://mcvoy.com/lm/boat there is a screen shot, let me go find the date. Nov 17 2020, look at the 2nd picture. The reason this is a big deal is you want...

    High Pitched Alarm Marlin 280

I second this, in more modern builds, the analog gauges are mostly gone, replaced with a Garmin with a Yamaha app that shows all the info. I've been really impressed how they did the app, if you take the engine display 7 inch Garmin and use it for fishfinder or charts, it runs the most useful...

    Diesel

As a guy who owns (or owned) a diesel flatbed, 2 diesel tractors, a diesel excavator, and a diesel van, I'm a huge fan of diesel engines. But as Billy said, they are heavy engines. Not for small boats unless someone has worked some magic.

Custom rocket launchers for the hardtop?

In the mean time, Albacore are showing up in our waters, bluefin as well. 50-60 miles out but they'll get closer. Does anyone know of a clamp on rocket launcher that I could use until Glen's stuff shows up? It's possible I'll go this week, likely next week. I just need a single one for the...

Custom rocket launchers for the hardtop?

Ordered mine today, Glen was great to work with and he promised me I'd get them tomorrow  (No he didn't, that's wishful thinking on my part)

Custom rocket launchers for the hardtop?

I need to go take some pictures and some measurements. I want to avoid blocking the spreader lights and my radio. If you look here: http://mcvoy.com/lm/boat/38.html I don't know if it works to put one right at the very outside above the one on the vertical post. I'll get some measurements...

    Prostatic

We're about the same age, I'm 59. I plan on leaving my house at 5am for a 6am launch. That means I get up at 3:45, make some coffee, take a dump or two, I'm good to go out on the boat. #1, piss over the rail or in a 5 gallon bucket and dump it over the edge. If I were in your shoes, I'd be...

    Tempted by 1990 Sailfish 25

Don't be me, my first boat sucked. Find a surveyor. 1990 is pretty old. Grady had wood in the stringers and transom back then, I think, people who know more will chime in. On the other hand, Grady has built some great boats over the years. If you are young and have a lot of energy to fix...

Custom rocket launchers for the hardtop?

I looked at it and said to myself "I hope it is under a grand". I get it, everything related to boating is spendy, but that seems like it is some money but is not crazy spendy. Good on you for sharing, I'll go with them.

Custom rocket launchers for the hardtop?

Magic, right back at you. When you first said you were my internet friend I told my wife and kids about it. I have a ton of people that I know from the internet, you are the first to say I'm your friend. I treasure that. My journey of learning continues, these days it is more about fishing...
