    Bought a 1987 226 Seafarer!

I don't plan on ditching the loopers any time soon, I'm very impressed with how they work with the Seafarer weight. Checking the specs for the 140's, they can safely go to 6000 without issue, so my props will most likely stay as is. Next time out I will run them wide open and fully trimmed to...

    Bought a 1987 226 Seafarer!

First time actually using my live wells last weekend, looks like both have leaky drains dripping into the bilge. Can only feel around under them since there is very limited space, maybe a mirror is needed to determine how to fix this issue. It was the first time I practically filled the boat...

Beautiful boat! Glad you are getting to enjoy the paradise of South Florida.

    gas tank

My tank in the 226 Seafarer only had deep corrosion where it touched the rubber shock pads, so not only did I coat the replacement aluminum tank with two coats of epoxy primer, I used 5200 and attached 3/16" thick fiberglass pads to the bottom of the tank where it touched the bearing points in...

    Red tide / Green algae

Reports are saying that we have a red tide condition on the East coast around the Jupiter area, tests are being done on the matter. People have been reported getting sick and having breathing problems from a strong odor, beaches have been closed over the weekend. I have lived here in Jupiter...

    226 front bilge question

My 87 226 has the same access plate and drain, but the access plate is more forward than the previous photo shows.

    Bad day

Will your bilge pumps still work with the batteries turned off?

    Bad day

Check all your drains and their hoses that are close to the water line, the fittings get cracked with age and can cause leaks, hoses dry rot. Fish box and cooler drains are very hard to get to, my forearms do not fit through the inspection holes. My 87 226 has forward and rear bilge pumps...

    New to me 228

It should take chop better since it has more weight and length, my 226 rides more like some 24's I have been on. You will notice that it pushes through boat wake better also.

    Just bought 1993 Seafarer

I just finished restoring my 1987 226, did everything except replace the twin Johnson 140's. Although they are dinosaurs for today's standards, I like them and not worried about economy. One thing to check on your boat is the steel bracket that ties your bow eyelet and anchor eyelet together. It...

    Bought a 1987 226 Seafarer!

Had a flawless outing on the 226 this weekend, new batteries really made a difference. What a fantastic all around boat, we had 6 people on board and everyone had a blast. Next up will be a trip offshore for some fishing, what a rewarding experience restoring this classic 30 year old boat has been!

    Bought a 1987 226 Seafarer!

We decided to splash the 226 for the Holiday weekend, thought that since we were trouble free last time out, there were no worries. Right off the trailer the port side outboard started right up, but I could tell battery was not fully charged. The starboard outboard barely cranked over and...

    Bought a 1987 226 Seafarer!

I have years of mechanical and restoration skills from doing classic car restorations and working in the construction field, so using a common sense approach to my first boat restoration has helped a lot. A couple more outings in the river are required before going offshore fishing, but I'm...

    Bought a 1987 226 Seafarer!

Had a wonderful day on the water today, the ole Seafarer ran flawless with no issues at all. This was my first problem free splash, even caught some nice snapper for dinner. What a great boat, love the way it rides and how the twin loopers get up and go.

    Black window trim

I agree, but I decided to get around 16 feet of it. Hope it lasts another 30+ years.

    Rain Water

Make sure your tank access panels are caulked in, all inspection covers are sealing correctly, and anchor eye up front is sealed tight.

    Black window trim

After 30 years in the South Florida sun, it is very brittle and has shrunk quite a bit. The company posted in the previous post has the correct trim, 5.50 per foot was what they quoted me.
