2020 228 on the Monterey Bay

Haven't made that mistake (yet). I have round ones under the bow, I stuff them in the walkway. It would be pretty hard to forget the fenders, we pull out of the ramp into the staging area and there is a whole process, drop the antenna, rods in lower holders or on the deck, plug out, straps on...

On the West Coast picked up a boat on the East Coast and trailered it back!

JJ, more pics! Congrats on getting her home, I'll have to make it up there and do a 2 boat launch with you. 228s rock!

On the water impressions of my 228

Wow, just read through all 5 pages of this. Pig, you have some staying power, kudos. I've done all this to my 2 stroke, it's no fun. It is fun when you get it to work (I didn't get there). Don't fear the barrel, they are awesome. Just get one that covers up the water intakes and you are...

On the water impressions of my 228

I have two 50 gallon ones, a little tight but they work. I put the one for the kicker on top of a couple of pallets so it is high enough. They work great. On running cleaner through there, I've been letting the engines run for about 15-20 minutes. I think the dealer told me 5, I'm not...

New Boat Order - Kicker choices

The hardest part of the install was getting the motor over the bracket. My kid, wife, and I couldn't get it at first, that motor is awkward to handle and there are no lifting loops on the engine. I finally put some felt on the bucket of my small tractor, had the wife and kid balance it, raised...

2020 228 on the Monterey Bay

Tipped, is it also for forward? I've been told it was for reverse. I need to take Shannon's advice and go farther up the harbor and play around. Do the tabs make a big difference? More playing with the boat is clearly needed, eh?

New Boat Order - Kicker choices

Well, I just put it on so I'm still figuring that out. So far I've been leaning over the seat which isn't ideal. If you look at the pics I did get a tiller extension so it is easier to steer and control speed. Still have to lean for tilt/start/stop. I bought the hardware to link the two...

New Boat Order - Kicker choices

What the heck do you troll for at those speeds? I troll at about 2.5mph for salmon and slower than that for halibut or lings, really tend to just drift for those but sometimes I troll. I've got a stationary VHF and two hand held VHFs. Planning on adding a second fully redundant stationary...

2020 228 on the Monterey Bay

I'm still learning mine but I couldn't agree more on trim. I find myself trimming all the way forward out on the bay, I have yet to find a day calm enough I didn't want the bow down as much as I can. Do you use the tabs for anything other than leveling the boat? Do you push the bow down...

    fender foolishness

I was just thinking about how much more I like this site than THT. I just took a guy to task in the thread over there about We made it home, some guy and his family had to get rescued by the coastguard, his boat flipped in the Gulf coast. Offshore. And sure enough, of course some salty dog...

Questions from GW Freedom 275 owner

Yep, my bad, I missed that. Mea culpa.

New Boat Order - Kicker choices

I do now :) I bought Suzuki instead of Yamaha because (A) No more tiny carbs for me, fuel injected is my choice and (B) Suzuki was the only thing that didn't have a 3 month waiting period. The bummer is I'm going to have to throw my 250 away and repower with Suzuki because that white looks so...

2020 228 on the Monterey Bay

You'll find there are upsides and downsides. My dealer is not what was advertised , I was told that they didn't rest until I was 100% happy, yeah, I had to beat them up to get them to take care of me. As a newbie I thought they would know everything, I have found way more reliable info here...

New Boat Order - Kicker choices

I forgot to talk about weight. My 228 has the batteries on the port side, ladder on starboard. The boat, without kicker, lists to port when my kid is along (I'm about 190, he's about 130). The dealer said put the kicker on the port side so it will be balanced when you are solo. That's nuts...

2020 228 on the Monterey Bay

Enjoy it. And ask questions here, this place is pretty supportive. I'll freely admit I was scared the first few times I went out, the 228 is a lot of boat, it is nothing like a CC, you need to experience to run it. I'm 100% sure you are going to love that boat, I love mine but it took a while.

New Boat Order - Kicker choices

I have a 2020 228 (2 foot longer than your 208 but otherwise the same boat). I have a 250 Yamaha with digital controls and supposedly it trolls. It doesn't. At 600 RPM it moves that 5000+ pound boat around 3.5mph which is too fast for salmon. Troll mode, unless I haven't figured out the go...

    Best oil for reservoir

What he said. On lubes, there are ratings for each type, be it engine oil, mix oil, gear oil, whatever, each class has some ratings. Every company will try and tell you their oil is special. With few exceptions, that's nonsense. What you need to do is open your owner's manual it will push...

    Fuel sender replacement issue

They could but the whole discussion has been how to not drop metal shavings into his 130 gallons of gas. I think the rivet idea is bitchin, I'm gonna buy me one of those.

    Facebook Grady White pages

As I have said to Russ in private message, I think people respond better if everyone thinks they are good people. Even the not so good people rise up and be good if you push that expectation on them. I am new so salt heavily, but I think this place is special, I think pretty much everyone here...

    Facebook Grady White pages

Yeah, I was a little "booty tickled" as my son likes to say when I posted that, THT crapping on me and others is just so unnecessary, I think it is insecure people who want to lord it over newbies but I don't know. It feels like high school. GreatGrady feels like adults. This is a much better...
