    Yamaha F200 in line 4 on a 20' walkaround

20 miles off the beach in VA. Just sayin'... I think I ran in that day on the last 5' of a 20' hull and once I hit the inlet, I went even faster. If you enjoy going fast, get a motor that will let you do it. Plenty of options out there that can provide both speed and...

    My fight with the pulpit

It's probably the same garbage that they use/used to build the fishbox hatches. If it keeps giving you trouble, I would suggest during the next off season that you pull it off completely, make it smooth and cast a mold from it. Then layup a proper pulpit in the mold. That will fix it once and...

Where to buy new complete set of windows?

Have you considered completely glassing them in and then installing new style windows like the current boats have?

repowered my 24 Offshore and need advice

Get the motor installed, running optimally (new plugs, clean O2 sensor, adjust TPS, adjust oil link rod, sync and lync) and see what kind of performance the current prop gives you. That's your baseline. Then you can start playing with engine height and props. FYI...if your mechanic mounts...

    1970 C-Craft P.O.S. project

Update on the new skiff... Stuck it in the garage over the winter to keep it nice and dry. That proved to be a mistake as I started using it as a "catch-all" for miscellanous junk. :( Pulled the stern handles for rebedding (and found no evidence of any sealant...ever). The wood core of...

A new way to install trim tabs

Good idea. It also seems like much more work than just over drilling the holes, filling with thickened epoxy and the redrilling.

How can I dry up a fresh-water-soaked transom?

If it's only slightly wet in spots, what Jcontour posted is the way to go. If it really is soaked, bit the bullet and replace it.

    Should I recore my transom?

That's your answer right there. Open it up and do it right. If you are rebuilding this boat for the long haul, the additional work of putting in an entirely new core will be worth it.

    L E D Trailer Lights

LEDs are a joke. Save your money...get the Dry Launch brand. Don't rely on the frame for your grounds. Run a dedicated ground wire down each side of the frame from the pigtail and make your connections with the adhesive lined heat shrink crimps. http://www.drylaunch.com/

Just bought a Seafarer 228 - Had some engine quesitions

If the compression checks out, spend some money on preventive maintenance. Then...and this is VERY IMPORTANT... get a sea anchor and a subscription to a towing service.

New to the site, looking to purchase a late 80's grady

Not sure where you are...but I have an '86 Seafarer project I would consider selling (sounds like somewhat of a project is what you are looking for). Stringers are solid (tank is out so you can see ever inch of them) and transom is in the process of being filled (it was an I/O). I can send you...

Please Help. This price seems WAY too high.

You could buy a new bracket for less than that.

Please Help. This price seems WAY too high.

You saw how I went about my bracket refinishing. It cost me $500 to have the bracket painted and probably $100 in gas to tow the boat to the painter. I pulled and reinstalled the engines myself. Done. There is no way in hell I would pay what you have been quoted.

    Fuel related

Those switches run the electric primer pumps that take the place of standard primer bulbs. I used to run then for just a few seconds (if you listen closely the pumps tone will change), then hit the keys. It's a different animal than the old "push to choke" system on carburated motors. If you...

Anybody paint or stain their trim and cuddy door?

If it's the Duratrim stuff, wipe it down with Penetrol. Aside from that, there isn't much you can do with it unless you want to replace it.

    Newbie

I went through this very thing when I repowered my old Sailfish. My original plan was to remove the bracket entirely, but despite my best efforts I couldn't get the damn thing to release from the transom. So, I went with an in place refinish. The "Gilcoat" was had only loosened from teh...

    Fuel tank fabricator in Delaware

Look up Patriot Marine in NJ. I got mine from Sunrise (not Sunshine) Marine Tanks in FL. It's not a work of art...but it seems to be built well. I paid under $800 delivered from FL for 93 gallons.

    Underwater transom lighting

I remember Chris telling me that green shows up the best. I thought that would look odd up here in our brown water, so I bought blue or white. Can't remember which.

    Underwater transom lighting

3rd vote. I bought a set from him for my Dad for Christmas one year. Was very impressed with the price, quality and customer service. Dad ended up not using them and Chris took them back no questions asked. I would have kept them for myself but I didn't want the black casings that matched...

    Transom Straps or Stern Strap?

My vote is for a stern strap. I have a 10,000 ratchet strap that I put around mind.
