My boat is at that age

Can be on saltwater boats especially if you fish offshore with full livewell all the time. Water from the livewell drops under there ( overflowing from the top of the tank) and eventually the breaker corrodes. If you see rust marks under the breaker pull it off and at least inspect but have a...

    Listing to Starboard

Are you near knoksville? Not that far from KY. I bought my previous 228 for a lake in Albany she lived on a lift by the lake all her life. Freshwater boats are great.

    Listing to Starboard

You guys must use your boats on calm waters without any currents or wind. When the boat is on the plane it doesn't take much to list, I find mine will list with the current and the wind that's why I have trim tabs . I mostly boat in open sea in the Pacific, we get big swells, chop wind and short...

When Things Don’t Go As Planned

Try grinding the heads off with a dremel then you can grab them with multi grips. Other option use an impact driver preferably a manual one, the one you hit with a hammer.

When Things Don’t Go As Planned

Can't you lift the fitting up a little so it will fit? Or move the fitting to the left a bit so the filter is away from the drain pipe.

I use to use https://www.shipito.com/en/?gclid=EAIaIQobChMI8rapxIKk6gIVECUrCh1rcAN9EAAYASAAEgKCxPD_BwE When I was buying stuff in USA, you can buy several things and they will pack them together. I don't know what their prices are now but use to be cheap. I even bought heavy stuff like brake...

    Listing to Starboard

Smoky has a 4 stroke , no oil tank. Mine are both on the port side as well. Fuel filter on the starboard side, one pump one port and another on starboard.

    Compression Tester

You can buy them from about $20 for personal use, a good commercial one would be over $100. A cheap one will do what you want to use it occasionally.

    Foot switches for windlass?

Summer your windlass is a couple of inches further forward than mine is. I have 2013 Seafarer and mine is fitted as per KY's pic, works well even with a 3 strand 5/8 rope although I never anchor in deep water, I only anchor for live bait. KY it is a good idea to have the foot controls even if...

    Looking at 228 or 258

Many moons ago I owned a Trophy 2002 same as yours but with outboard engine. The deck space in the 228 is twice as big as the 2002 . Much longer and wider the other problem with the Trophy the gunnels were very low . I have been in a 258 Journey from what I can remember deck space was similar to...

    Kicker on a 228.

I know Tohatsu make a 9.9 hp EFI big bore engine and one of the lightest if not the lightest under 100 lb and you can get it in 25" shaft with optional power tilt. I don't know if they make a high thrust . The difference is the gearbox but you can always use a lower pitch prop.

    A question about trailers

If you want to drop the boat in the water you can install the new winchpost where ever you can secure the boat drive to the boat ramp, drop her in the drink then move the post back where you want it to be and load the boat on. If it was me I would secure the trailer and pull her back from the...

    A question about trailers

I would go with aluminum every time. If you are concerned why not opt for heavier I beams, all S/S bolts and get them to use duralac on all S/S bolts and where the torsion axles contact the I beams , you will never have any problems . If you want your brakes to work all the time S/S rotors ...

    Trailer Question re GVWR

You are correct not enough for your 228 with hardtop, you need a 7000 lb trailer. GVWR is the total weight of the trailer and load, even an aluminum trailer will weigh 1000 lb or close to it, you boat should be 5300 with water and fuel.

    A question about trailers

You have a strong winch post but I agree with KY you should lower the winch plate.
